Motor Mounts Question
« on: July 05, 2013 - 11:44:25 AM »
What are you guys using for motor mounts.  The traditional rubber or polygraphite type mounts?  Mine is a stock application on the 71.  Thanks

Dave

I used regular mounts but I drilled a 1/4 inch hole through them and used a grade 8 nut and bolt to keep them together. I forgot to take pics when I did it

Not a bad idea!  I've ripped up almost every drivers side mount I've ever had in a big block (usually assisted by being oil soaked and rotted)  That sounds better than what I was going to do, make a solid steel drivers side mount.
Yes I own a 1972 Dodge Challenger Convertible T/A S/E with a 440 Six Pak. Can it get any more wrong?

I use magnum mounts. Ever since I tore a stock one. They have a bolt thru the centre to limit movement under accel.

There are a few options and I've used most with good results.

-I've used solid mounts both sides on a street/strip car.
Shook the car pretty good but still was not unbearable.

-Solid mount on the drivers side and rubber on the passenger
Less vibration and good support especially for high torque big blocks and 4 speeds.

-Set of cheap rubber mounts with good torque strap

-For my current setup I bought a set of Mity mounts from Dynatech
http://www.mitymounts.com/chrysler.htm might be the same thing Mancini is selling definitely the same thing 440source sells.
These mounts have internal locks.
First set I got made the engine sit tilted in the car, Dynatech immediately set a new set which worked after some modifying/tweaking.
Nice mounts but they still let the engine move too much in my 440 Sixpack 4 speed Challenger and actually caused the clutch linkage to flex and bind during hard acceleration.
I ended up adding a torque strap to calm things down.

I spent large for the poly mounts which I am told still fail so might as well use the rubber mounts & put a steel strap across from the block to the center bolt to prevent failure
