ID this jack?
« on: July 05, 2013 - 08:10:44 PM »
Pictured is the jack that came in my 1971 R/T Challenger.

I'm have no experience with jacks and I'm not even sure if this is a Mopar jack.

What I do know is my 71 Challenger has a scheduled build date of June 14th 1971 so it's a late production car.

The car currently has slotted bumpers but I have no idea if they are original to the car or not.

No date stampings on the rivets or the jack that I can find, the only numbers I see are two 7's spaced fairly apart under where the hook part pivots.

The mast is 35 1/2" long.

So for the experts tell me what jack do I have.

Thanks.

Mostly just giving you a bump here.... but I can only guess that it looks like a mopar jack. From what car I dont know.
Did late 71's challengers come with slotted bumpers?
I can tell you that 71 cuda jack mechanisms were painted a dover gray, but my June 1971 cuda did not come with slots. It uses the other type hook.

I don't believe 71 Challengers had slots in the bumper, used the hook type. BUT, being late 71, maybe they put on 72 bumpers. Does the rear have slots?

Hmmmm.  I found two very similar jacks in the trunk of my 71 Challenger convertible.  Here are the pictures side by side, neither looks like what you have, and they are very slightly different from each other.  Anybody have any ideas if either of these is correct for a '71?

In my opinion, that is NOT a Chrysler jack.

....At the very least it isn't an E-Body jack.

What makes you guys think that?  I did a google search on the patent number, and one of the first results came in a discussion about an E Body space saver jack.  The owner described a jack with the same markings/stampings as this one.  I have no idea if this car ever had the space saver, but I also don't know what the "Correct Jack" is supposed to be.  I have nothing to compare to.

So, do you think the jacks in my pictures are E-body jacks?  If so, do you have any ideas as to the slight variations?  Also, does anyone know if there is a difference between space saver jacks and regular jacks?

Yes I believe yours are 70 and early 71 E Body jacks. I don't know why the variations. The type of spare does not influence the type of jack.
