Starting my Megasquirt EFI tank build
« on: July 06, 2013 - 12:54:20 PM »
Started building my fuel tank.   Going with a megasquirt for the controller.   Also bought an Aeromotive 340 fuel pump.

Dropped the top for trunk clearance and built a sump

Will also have a fuel sender
I'm not an expert welder but can get it done

Thanks to the others who have done this already,  As you can see I'm using there .

I will start building the Megasquirt next week,  Car is still in primer, had to get away and do something different

Nice Work!!
72 Cuda, owned 25 years. 496, with ported Stage VI heads, .625 in solid roller, 254/258 at .050, 3500 stall, 3.91 rear. 850 Holley DP, Reverse manual valve body.

1999 Trans Am, LS1, heads, cam, headers, stall, etc! Love to surprise the rice rockets with this one. They seem so confident, then it's "what the heck just happened?"

Nice !!!!
Maybe an idea to make heatshields between tank and rear mufflers?
The original shields works "upwards" only.

Do you plan to cut the trunk, for easy access to the pump and level sensor?

Now what I need is a tank with cut outs that will allow a hidden hitch installation...Hmmmm
...and having MORE volume at the same time....

Fix that,...and name your price,...'cause I want one REALLY BAD !!

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/aei-18650/overview/   this is how i did it...
Note the return inlet chamber and smooth "waterfall wall" designed to avoid return fuel foaming...

Whilst I'm at it,...will your filler neck allow for filling without spilling gas ?
The spilling of gas everytime I fill up,..is the most anoying design flaw these cars have....

Good idea about the heat shields, maybe I'll weld a couple brackets to the tank for a shield.  We do a lot of that kind of thing on airplanes.  I'm a airplane mechanic.
As far as the filler tube, I plan to put the vent in the tube as it will be the high point in the tank.  The tube will run to a expansion tank then to the charcoal canister, which I might mount in the back of the car somewhere.
Yes, I plan to cut an access in the trunk so I can get to the pump without dropping the tank.

Thanks for the input,
Dan
