Where to find Ebody cars
« on: July 07, 2013 - 12:40:23 PM »
Sorry if this has been posted before, I tried searching and didn't find much.

Where do you all look for new project cars?  I search craigslist, cudaworld and here.

I am looking for a 70-71 cuda/barracuda or challenger to restore. I have a budget for a car of 10-15k. I know that is not a lot but I should be able to get a nice builder for that.

Hope the weekend finds you all well.

Thanks,
Dragon

The only other suggestion I have is checking E-Bay. Do a search on Ebay motors for Challenger or Barracuda, then modify the search to only 1970-1971. I realize the downfall of this is you might find a car, but it's 1000 miles away.    :-\

Probably be a good idea to start a thread in the cars wanted area here . . . . At least then members will know you are looking!    :2thumbs:

Thanks. I will post in the wanted section. I didn't think of ebay. Always worried about scams.  I guess these days it is no worse than Craigslist... "71 cuda fully restored 13k!!!! I am out of town but if you send me money I will pay to ship it to you!"
Can't get enough of that.

I've found most of my cars using dumb luck. I pick up the right paper, go to the right car show or website at the right time.

I purchased my project on ebay. There are without a doubt scams but its all part of the game. I am pretty sure I was scammed. The 3rd bidder stopped at $1,600, then another bidder ran me up to $2,300 and won.  The "other bidder," didn't want to pay to ship it to Australia. The owner re-listed it on ebay with a 24 hour time and a "buy it now," button so I felt rushed/ pressured to buy it before somebody else did. And with that short an auction I didn't have time to email him to ask questions. The owner sent me a message and said I could have it for the last bid I put in. Which in reality if the "other bidder" didn't exist, I would have won it around $1,600 and not $2,300. So I believe the owner had a friend artificially inflate the bid higher. Although I could be wrong and his story could have been legit. I still think all the original "winner" bids should have been void and I should have got offered it for the price when the 3rd bidder dropped out. Unfortunately, those kind of scams are hard to detect.

How much of a project are you looking for? This guy wants $17,500 for this challenger. Its almost not even a project depending on what you like. You could always get this, put on a new hood, swap the wheels out, put on a spoiler, repaint, and drop in a new motor.

Thanks all. That autotempest.com site is pretty cool. I'm lazy, it does lots of work for me.
The Pink car in Cali is super nice. If I had the money I would go look at it. It is a bit over my budget plus far away.
I have been looking inside garages and barns when I am not at work, but so far haven't found much. I did find a neighbor with 4 cudas, two chargers and a challenger. One cuda is for sale but it is 20k. Nice car but again, I don't have that much to spend at the moment.

P.S.  I really like your site. Everyone seems very friendly. I was expecting some backlash for this question. Most sites I visit, the first post is: Did you try the search feature? This question has been asked a hundred times.
I have even had a member reach out to me and offer to let me check out his collection!

Thanks all
