    How do I KILL a tree?  I've heard from a few sources that you use a copper nail.  :clueless: Now ol' BIGS is not a metallurgist , but.... copper is one soft metal. And to pound soft metal into a green wet wood... really??  :dunno: Plus I've been in allot of hardware stores... NEVER have I seen copper nails.... so... How do I kill a tree?

    I've heard drill holes and pour in diesel. It worked well on stumps I had in Alberta that kept sprouting

    I agree with drilling the holes but if you want to kill a tree with something surefire, easy to acquire and has a lot of other uses just go to the nearest home center and get some ROUND-UP in concentrated form (41-48%).  Use your cordless drill with a 7/16 or 1/2 inch bit and drill four or five holes 2 or 3 inches deep around the lower trunk.  Drill at about a 45 degree angle so you can pump in the Round-up concentrate from a squirt bottle and fill the holes.  Tree dies!  PK

    If you cut a ring about 1/4 inch wide around the base of the tree it will die. A
    tree gets it's nutrients through the bark and if you eliminate that path then the
    tree will die. But Alan is correct that the chainsaw will do it and much quicker too.   :roflsmiley:

    Drill a hole in the trunk down towards the roots and pour copper sulfate down the hole I have heard of a guy at work who killed a few of his neighbors tress that way. Drilled the hole from his side of the fence.

    I have done the copper nails trick. It takes more than a few nails and takes awhile to kill the tree, one or more growing seasons.  Soft wood trees are easier to kill this way.   Another trick is rock salt, spread it around the tree, the more applications the better.  Trees don’t do well in salt water.

    You can get copper nails in your local roofing supplier,  or just drill some holes in the stump and pour in rocksalt,  or a combination of both, or,,,,,,, go to your local renal center,   get a miniexcavator and dig it up,  its always a lot of fun playing with heavy equipment  :cooldancing:

     :thinkerg: OL BIG'S,do you have any real old railroad tracks around your area,if so walk down the center of them and scan the center section for copper nails,they used to mark ties this way back in the 1800's early 1900's.I used to have a bunch of them from when i worked on the railroad years ago in the U.P of MI.  :thumbsup:

    If it's a pine tree, spraying it with Roundup will kill it even if it's 20' tall.
