number 5
Something looks funny

I do believe, the bearing was left out of number 5.  Hence carving a step on the crank journal.
I can catch the step with my fingernail when I run it across the journal.  :bricks1: :clueless: :dunno: :puke: :crying: >:( >:( >:(

One of the bolts is catching and is really hard to remove from the cap.

two cylinders had moisture in them.  Would that have something to do with running ethanol?

So, obviously I'm not working in a high dollar shop. Just me and some tools and a cluttered garage.
I don't really want to spend the money on shop fees.

I'm wondering what is junk.

Everything?

Not an engine builder, but seems line honing would be valuable in this case, if have bottom end problems, or is that
only if you use studs?

Hate to say it but..... "IF" the block is good I think the cheapest way out is a stroker kit. I wouldn't reuse the oil pump, lifters, timing chain , rods, crank. Epic fail on the part of the engine builder.  :22yikes:
Sorry to see this mess you inherited .  :sadwavey:

So then, yes, everything is junk.

Unless the block checks out and can be stroked.

Again, I'm no engine builder.  But I'm not scared.
Can you direct me to a complete kit to stroke this motor?

HP2, are you out there?  Do you know of a shop I should take this block to get it checked?

So, can I replace all bearings, two rods/caps/ bolts, and a crank and make it run again?

not the optimum choice of course. I just have a hard time throwing stuff away.  Does that make any sense at all?

Really need to figure out my direction on this.
Probably going to Denver to get a stock 78 400 as a temporary runner.  That will give me time to figure out where I'm going with this 383.
