Poll: Suggestion for Club Dinner(s) for 2014
« on: July 16, 2013 - 08:57:55 AM »
Since this forum is very popular right now, I thought it might be a good time to throw this out there.

I sat across the table from 4Cruizn at the club dinner at Dodge City on Saturday evening, and he kept mentioning how excited he was to get back to "Vipermanland" at the hotel and just sit and talk with all the members.

As the night went on however, and we waited longer and longer for our food, he started to get a little anxious.  "This is cutting in to our parking-lot time..."

It made me think about maybe reorganizing our dinner plans.  Instead of doing a casual dinner Friday, when usually everyone is around and everyone is planning on being there the next morning, why don't we do the big club dinner THAT night, where we can have the largest attendance.  Then on Saturday night, those who are sticking around can have a more-casual dinner - like pizza or a local chain restaurant - and maximize the time we have Saturday night for those interested to stay up and recount all the good times from the show.

So cast your vote.  I see a swap as a win-win for everyone.  Those who leave early on Saturday can still make the club dinner, and everyone gets back to the hotel a little sooner on Saturday to pack, chat, and relax.

I guess it depends how many members just come in for Saturday . . . Would they be there in time for dinner?   :clueless:

The last few times we have come have been for one day (Saturday). If you change nights for the dinner we could have not been around for that. Maybe we could move the time from around 7 to around 6 that way every one could get back to the hotel a little sooner and people that come for Saturday only could get home a little sooner. It was after midnight when we made it back to Maryland.

I don't think changing the time is going to work with the bikini contest going on.  I think we just need to order faster when we get at the restraurant . . . I think it just took to long to get our orders in . . . Then with so many orders, it took a long time to get the food out.  If we started at 7:00 . . . I think it is reasonable to be out of the restraurant in about 2 - 2 1/2 hours.

I hear ya, and the same problem goes the other way - Shadango and crocha617 were leaving early Saturday to start their trips home, and couldn't make the Saturday dinner.  The problem with starting sooner is that the burnout and bikini contests are usually taking place around 6pm.  Also, many local restaurants don't WANT to take reserverations for large groups during that prime-time, as it slows down their kitchen and upsets customers who are waiting for a table and then see a large group arrive and get seated right away.  I overheard a conversation at the Viper club that Carabba's - where they had a reservation Friday - would only take a reservation for their club at either 5pm or 8pm, but not in between.  Even Dodge City was hesistant to take our 7pm reservation, but when Ash explained that we probably wouldn't be ordering until 8, they were okay with it.

I voted for Friday but next year I hope to stay through Sunday morning so it probably wouldn't end up mattering to me if I stay like I think I am. The only reason I didn't stay this year was because I waited until last minute and the hotel prices were ridiculous and I refused to pay another $160/night for that S%*$ hole I stayed in.

I voted Saturday as lots of people are busy searching out parts in the vendor section and go till they drop. Saturday is more of a relaxed, look at the cars and decide what parts you are going to get last minute sort of a thing?

I voted Saturday also. It just seems like a great way to end the show. Then we go back to the Hotel parking lot and let the real party begin.   :grinyes:

As far as dinner times, I'm not particular. I never stay for the burnout contest or bikini contest, so any time works for me.

Alright - well it seems like people still prefer the Saturday.  I appreciate the feedback fellas.  I do know that Dodge City (as it seems like everyone is willing to return there next year) can accomodate more tables in that back room for us if needbe.  I think they said up to 30 or so (people), and we barely had 20 in there.

Jeff,

The food at Dodge City was great....At least mine was.

Maybe we can tone it down some next year so people sitting at the bar aren't complaining.    :grinno:

Dinner this year was great, even if it took a while to get our food.

I'm surprised that the people at the bar didn't come over to join in the fun.  That's clearly where it was happening.

PS

I thought the food was great too.  There were a few other things on the menu I'd like to try next time.
