It depends on the look you want. It's your car, do as you please. I personally would leave them alone.
If I cant fix it, it's broke

I am with you I hate the ones that stick out in the 72+ cars. If you could put the early one in that's what I would do. But please leave the door handles

Put some 68 style round B Body ones on. Why in the hell would you or anyone remove a safety device? Say you are sitting at an intersection at night. NO ONE CAN SEE YOU because you took your side markers off. FOOL. If you get run into - your bad. You deserve it. I just don't get it. It's your car, do what you please. Excuse my french, but you are a dumb bunny for running a car on the street with out side markers. FOOL! It doesn't look cool to shave lights. It's a dumbass move that only a FOOL would make. Dumb people. How in the world does it make your car "more cool"?????? I have never understood how some people can be so stupid when it comes to being seen so some dumb ass texting or something doesn't see you and takes out your entire front end. My 67 coronet didn't come with side marker lights, but i bought 68 style round ones to install front and rear to let people know that I am there. With 5 way led lights. You are a TOOL to remove them or shave them. How in the hel does it make your car cool? Do you think anyone would even know the difference if you didn't point it out? What could you possibly gain from it? and what could you possibly Lose from it? Like Teddy Roosevelt said "some people you just can't reach" good god. WHY on earth would you want to make yourself LESS visable in a classic historic old muscle car? Do you see NEW cars from the factory with shaved side markers? Well, there is a reason. It's effing stupid. Rant over.

Like I said, it's your car, do what you want. Just pointing out the reasons not to do it.

I am planning in swapping to 70 style on my 73, they are flush and u still have the safety of having side markers.  You can even buy weld in templates for em, just cut out the square, and weld in the new ones, then drop in 70 lights and bezels

So, I am guessing no one will like my idea of instead of strobe stripe, side markers down the side? Or phosphoresence vinyl wrap so the whole car glows? lol. Captain Safety here, ya know. One almost needs sunshades on to view Dutch's car! It's a beauty, for shure, and bright!
