I got mine about 4 years ago from DB electrical off e-bay, chrome, Mopar style 95 amp I believe? How do you figure out how many amps your car requires? I assume you add up electrical components , but figuring out how much the draw is what I don't know? Brad, if the voltage stays at 13.5 or more at wot at the top end with the lights on, you have plenty of alternator. If the voltage drops as the load comes up, then your alternator is not supplying the amperage required at the time. These old alternators typically don't put out nearly as much current at idle as modern ones do but they should catch up as the engine speed is increased. Unless you are idling with the lights on and the stereo booming for an hour at a time, then you may have a problem, but in a normally driven car the battery easily handles the load at idle and is recharged when you begin to move so there is no problem. Therefore, check the voltage under normal driving conditions. Going wot forces the ignition to pull as much current as it can so that is worse case scenario if the lights are on high beams.
