Making / Adapting a Convertible Top (Frame and Soft Stuff)
« on: July 28, 2013 - 11:29:21 AM »
There's a guy I work with, a very nice Brit, who was talking to me about his car, an old 4-seater convertible. Old, like 30s. He needs a top for it; the original is either broken, rusted to the point where it won't work, or just gone.

What would folks suggest for him? I had suggested getting a top mechanism from a modern donor and adapting it. Until I realized it was a 4 seater, I suggested a Miata. Knowing the age of the car, I know think that the construction is closer to that of a CJ. Does anyone know of a company that will make CJ-style top to custom specs?

I'm not 100%, but my impression is that it's mostly gone if not all gone. I think this may have been a picked over junkyard find.

in that case, I would bring a measuring tape and visit all classic car shows I could get to and see if there`s anything out there that`s close enough to make fit.  No specs on the car?

He's repat for five weeks starting tomorrow. I'll e-mail him latter and have him measure it, at least roughly.
