5.7 Hemi
« on: July 29, 2013 - 08:19:30 PM »
Alright I got some question. I came across a good deal. I bought a 5.7 Hemi block and heads everything except an intake. My question is what do I need or need to do to get it into my 74 cuda. I know nothing about third generation motors. What are you guys doing or would have done for this kind of swap.
All kinds of comments and concerns would be appreciated.

Why was it apart?  Does it need a rebuild?  Car motor or a truck front on it.  I've got a car intake for it if you want it, but it doesn't come with injectors or fuel rails.

There are lots of threads on here and Moparts that give the details of the install, so check them out, and come back with specific questions.  There is way too much put in a response.

I'm just finishing my 5.7 install, and have learned quite a bit.  Its certainly not easy, but it can be done.  Good luck.

Came out of a 2006 300. Took it apart because it burned up a piston. Feel like a injector got stuck and super heated the head looks almost melted.
I will have to buy a new head and atleast buy two new pistons. If not a hole new set.
I was going to build it just for the fun of it. I bought a short block with heads new lifters to get rid of the mds lifter. Timing cover and water pump.
I have read alot of boards and even tried other boards. I have seen the things people are using but cant find out were they are getting them or why you need it. All they say is i got this new part and they bolt it on.

My questions are
Do you need a certain oil pan?
(I feel like the k member would get in the way with the sump in the front.)

Has anyone run a carb intake on one?

Are yall running a certain tune or flash on the ecm? Or something totally different?

What kind on wiring harness? Is there a cut down harness?

What type of flexplate.

Is there any motor mounts or is it make your own?

Why are people running Remote oil filters?

OK so you know . the only mounts you can get are TTI mounts. average price $135
hooker and TTi make headers for the 5.7.  that work.
what tranny are your running with.. Best choice in my opinion in an automatic is a 727 . you will need a spacer
CARB OR FUELLY. your choice . MSD and FAST by comp cams have a UNIT that will work ...
If you go carb look at INDY intakes for the money if your a carb guy its a no brainer... FI systems ?? well you have to be in tune with them or you could fall into some pitfalls if your not up to date with them......

Thanks for the info.

I will be running the original 727 (Rebuilt of course)

I dont know on the fueling system yet. I have alot of friends pressuring me on both.
I believe I will have to do more research on the carb setup and the infection setup.
Kind of scared of the fuel injection stuff cause I have never messed with it on a gas burner.

EFI is painless now no need to tune anything just plug and play.
