So here is the whole story.
We have been looking for a barracuda/cuda for awhile now. A guy at my work typed in "baracuda" and found a very nice '74 on craigslist only an hour from my house. I sent my wife the link. She called the owner and set up a meeting the next day to view the car. Later that night the craigslist add was removed. With a little investigation we found the car listed on Ebay is a close location to where the craigslist add said it was. The same picutres were posted with the same short description. My wife called the gentleman the next morning to figure out what was going on. She found out that he had his cousin post it on Ebay a few days earlier and not understanding how Ebay works figured we found it there got his phone number and called him. He deleted the craigslist post to ease confustion. Because the car was already bid above our top price we asked the man if we came up with a cash offer if he would end the auction. He said no. We decided that we did not want to get into a bidding war for the car. I told my wife it all seemed fishy cause the car was bid above others that were nut and bolt restored. I said lets wait it out and see what happens.
Meanwhile later the next weekend while stopping for a bit to eat at a local Sonic we found a small car show across the lost at a Village Inn. Then I see a '71 Hemi Cuda Vert pull in. I said that's it we are going over there. We stop to talk to the guy and he is super nice. Turns out it was a replica but who cares, it was nice! He tells us that he has a friend with a '73 AAR clone. I got super exited. From the pics I could see on his phone it looked right and he said it had a 6 pack and all. He got us in touch with the and the rest of that is history. Sort of. As you can see from the pics at the top of the page it is not exactly an AAR clone but still a nice car.
We made a deal and ended up with the car. The pictures hide a grip of body work that was done and would need to be re-done someday if you wanted a really nice car. Mechanically the car was sound.
So fastforward 6 days.
I get a text at work, my wife says that the guy with the '74, he is pissed cause some guy bid up the car on ebay and then bailed. He told her that the car was hers if she still wanted it.
Being the great guy/husband I am I told her we would make it work if she really wanted it. We went up a couple days later with the very little cash we had left. When we see the car, it is nicer than I expected. The body work is all done, with my amature eye it looks very good. It has a 440 which I wanted and the body work is done which she wanted.
We left a tiny amount of cash with the guy and a promise to come with the rest of the money within a week.
I made my wife post the green car on craigslist later that day and it sold two days later.
We now own a different car, I will post some pics when we stop getting buckets of rain here.
Sorry for the novel but I hope you all got a good laugh at our expence
At least my wife is happy and I got a big motor! Someone somewhere up there must have been looking out for us, I feel like I should lock myself in my basement for a few years cause I must have used all of my luck for a good long while.
Thanks for listening and I am still happy to be a member here
Please keep the teasing to a minimum.
