1 or 3 speaker dash, what deterimed what was used?
« on: July 30, 2013 - 01:23:40 PM »
Hello all,
trying to finish all the planning before re-assembly.
My question is: I have seen 1 and 3 speaker dash pads,
what determined if 1 or 3 was used?

could any Ebody 71 cuda have either or?
thanks :clueless:

The radio option determines which dash was used.

AM got the single speaker
FM got 3 speaker

I know you're asking about a '71 but I thought I'd throw this out there too.

In 1970, IIRC,  the AM/8 Track option also got the 3 speaker pad.

FM and 8 Track were stereo options.  All the stereo options got 3 speaker dashes.

They also received 2 rear speakers if they had a rear speaker.

AM (and no radio) had a single speaker dash, and a single rear speaker if they had the rear speaker option.

Rear speakers were an individual option.  If the car had them it would have had a different in dash harness (it would have 2 large 6 wire connectors) and it would have had a rear speaker fader knob with a 6 wire connector and 2 pots on it.  These are hard to come by, and the B body ones will not work (they have a shorter shaft).

If you do not have the original dash, harness or knob, the only way to tell would be to check the broadcast sheet.  There is no way to tell from the fender tag.

I am missing my sheet, and the car was stripped so I wont be able to tell, more then likely I will add some as I want to be able to hear the radio. Thanks for the info
