Drove 162 miles and lost 3 lug nuts off front tire thanks town fair tire!

Just like the title says, I bought 2 new tires for my daughters car a 2000 Volvo s-70 from Town Fair Tire.She drove 162 miles and came home saying the front end wasn't right. I was going to take it for a spin myself but just looked at the tire and saw 3 lug studs missing!

 Here is my question on the invoice is a statement that reads as follows. Safety Warning: Due to the type of vehicle you drive and for your safety,we require you to come back to a Town Fair store for two torque checks one at 25 miles and again at 500 miles.
Do I have a legitimate beef with these guys? Or should I have gone back that safety warning just sounds like typical corporate cover your ass BS!
 My daughter only drove 162 miles and lost 3 studs off one tire. Is a re-torque really necessary? I mean it`s tires you better get it right the first time! Thank god she didn`t lose a tire on the highway and got hurt or worse. I would have been in there with a baseball bat tuning up these guys!
Either way I`m done with this place I have had trouble with them on this car before front tires always wear out as if its out of alignment even though they say they did it. I only returned to them since I had a road hazard warranty to cover the tires.

Now I have to check all four tires and replace 3 lug studs, since they put the front tires to the rear and new ones on the front. They have had their paws all over all 4 tires and I have no faith in these clowns anymore!

steel wheels are usually Ok if torqued , alum need to be checked , glad you didn;t lose the whole wheel too

Yes that`s exactly what they are.

I find it hard to believe that they need to be re-torqued like they say. I wonder how many people like myself ignore this and have lost wheels or worse? This is a get it right the first time kind of job in my eyes! I don`t care what kind of rim it is this is unacceptable! I mean wtf if there is a chance of this happening put some thread locker on the studs! I have had this car in there before and never had a re-torque done guess I was just lucky or unlucky depending on how you look at it!

Even though it was 30 years ago, I'll never forget when I was driving my '79 Bronco down to college, and felt a funny vibration in the front end in the middle of nowhere.  I thought about continuing on, but fortunately I decided to pull off on the shoulder, where I discovered 2 lugs snapped off, and the remaining three bent and moments from failing.  I came really close to losing a front 33" tire on an SUV at 65 mph, I hate to think what would have happened if I'd lost that wheel!  I'd had the truck in to a local garage a few weeks earlier to have the tires rotated, as far I can can tell, they stripped the studs on that front or didn't tighten them.  Could have killed me or left me paralyzed or something with their sloppy work. 
A few years later I got some new wheels for that truck, at a different shop, and shortly afterwards I felt something funny in the front end and took the truck back.  Again, several studs were stripped, the shop manager called all his guys over to show them my truck and chewed them out.  I'm not sure why installing lug nuts on a '79 Bronco was so challenging to mechanics, I did it many times on my truck and never had a problem!

I changed out the wheels on a car I had when I was a teenager. Really cranked the lug nuts on. Figured that would be good enough. Less than a week later, my front wheel came off in town lol, glad I was only going 25 mph or so. Walked the rest of the way home and asked my dad for some tools and a ride lol.

As soon as I get the car home from one of those places I jack it up, take the lug nuts off, check to make sure they didn't cross thread the studs, apply anti seize and re-torque them.

It seems like half the time these shops over tighten them, and I have to get out the big breaker bar to get them off.

Even if toqured properly wheels can settle in and need to be re torqued, especially with aluminum. And yes they cover thier ass with that statement so you are outta luck for not going back.

Did you ever rotate the tires and just put 2 lug nuts on hand tight, and the other 3 only by a few threads? Of course I was meaning to tighten everything up once the car was on the ground. Somehow I forgot one wheel. Let's just say the results weren't pretty. Then the thing the really pi$$ed me off was I had to chase the runaway wheel down the road.
