I always retourque my wheels steel or alloy after a few miles of reinstallation especially the race car,  that shop probably stripped or sheared her studs and gave her that notice to cover their asses.

Standard tapered lug nuts usually are lug centric and the wheel ends up where its supposed to be but them studs I've seen a wheel wobble after a tire monkey rattled em on.

I`ve seen a bunch of guys going wrong with paint or powdercoat in the bolt holes and on the backside of the rim, where it touches the hub.  Especially powder is dangerous since it gets soft with heat from breaking.

The nuts can loosen up on aluminum wheels.  It's been that way for a long time.  I rotated the tires on a Grand Am at work years ago.  I told the guy to come back in a couple days and I'd retorque the nuts because they could work loose.  Two weeks later he came back in and said his car was on the side of the road and that a front wheel had come off.  Three of the studs were broken off.  I put nuts on the two good studs and drove it back to the shop at 10mph.  We took care of it no charge.

That notice is standard fair for any tire shop that I`ve been to recently even if they are very good about torqueing the wheels correctly.

Even if toqured properly wheels can settle in and need to be re torqued, especially with aluminum. And yes they cover thier ass with that statement so you are outta luck for not going back.

Yeah i`m sure that paragraph on the invoice has saved tire shops from a lot of liability lawsuits. At least for me it was caught just in time and there was no damage. I`m just out $10 to Rockauto for some new lug studs.  I just know I will never be going back to Town Fair Tire again. I have probably bought at least a dozen full set of tires for all the vehicles I have owned over the years. Even if it`s my responsibility for going back and getting the re-torque, I haven`t been happy with their service for some time now and this was just the last straw! I got a feeling one of their techs didn`t tighten the lugs enough it was late in the day and a Friday!

Back in high school I put aluminum "vane" mags on my Charger. Drove about 5 miles out into the country, noticed a wobbling on the front. Got out and 3 lug nuts were missing. Retightened the entire car. After the second tightning, I never had a problem again. But I always checked them after wheel removal and reinstalling. On the OTHER hand, I was attempting to rotate my tires on my 'burban a few years ago. Got the lug nuts off (steel factory wheels) and couldn't remove the rims. They were rusted on. It had only been a year or so since new tires. I had to barely start the lug nuts on, and drive the Burb a few feet and slam on the brakes a few times to knock the rims loose. First time I'd ever seen that!

During such times I usually just kick the wheel and it will knock it loose lol. Or if all else fails get the BFH!

Problem I had before was over torquing. Sears put the lug it's on so tight the key for the locking lug nut snapped and I hardly used the key.  The locking lug it was always the last to go on and first to come off.  And I hand torqued my lug it's to 80ft/lbs every time myself.
