Braces in door frame for window?
« on: August 01, 2013 - 01:44:01 PM »
I currently have my door panels off my 70' Cuda to replace the door glass.  I see there are some brackets along the top frame of the door that bolt to the framing and consist of a rubber(?) end and appears to be some sort of guide for the window. Mine are so old I'm not sure if it is hard rubber or rubber covered with felt. The car is fitted with aftermarket power windows.  What is the name of these parts? I would like to replace them while the panel is off. I have looked online at several places but can't seem to find them.  Thanks in advance.

Sorry I was at work when I posted.  Here are a couple of pics.  I double checked and there are 2 brackets on each side.  It might be hard to see the one near the door handle side.

Origianlly those brackets had a fuzzy material on them.  That material is NOT reproduced.  Some poeple have used the soft half of a velcro strip...others have used a material that is found on Cameros.  It's sold through some of the Camero resto companies.

There are also 2 hard rubber brackets on either end.  Does anyone reproduce them? I haven't caught up with Dave yet.  I hope to try today.

The hard rubber ones weren't used in the later years.  I don't know if you actually need them or not.

Anyone know what these door braces are actually called? Who sells them or has a extra set to sell?

Just "window guides" I think. I know of a guy who should have boxes of them.  Do you want his contact info?

Yeah I would love to change mine out.  I think the rubber stop on the passenger side is what scratched the window to begin with.

When I had my doors out I ran into the same problem with worn out window felts.

I used a piece of Jute Padding and cut it to fit so that it covered both sides of the metal strip and then I used a nylon tie wrap to secure the felt piece onto the metal strip.  This particular jut padding has a rubber backing and it is real secure.

I discovered that the thick jute padding is both soft enough to slide on the glass but yet dense enough to keep the glass in place.  I actually think this solution is better than OEM because my doors now do not rattle and they close better than new.
