When I grew up in the 70's, I couldn't stand him.

It was Deep Purple, Led Zep, The Who, and the rest of those bands kicking a$$ at the time.
Don't get me wrong they're still tops in my books.

However, Tonight I was watching Elvis 1973 Aloha tour on PBS.
I gotta lot of respect for him now. The dude was the man!

I blew it. Should've vistited Glaceland when I was stationed in Ft. Campbell in 81-83'.

Was he an influence to you when you were young?
Is he now? Have you've been to Graceland?
Was he on your radio back then?

Maybe I'm just getting older and respect other generations of music?

I can`t say I didn't like Elvis`s music but it wasn't my generations music. Like you it was Led Zep AC/DC, Stones Pink Floyd, etc for me growing up. However I totally missed the boat on Johnny Cash, I never appreciated his music when he was alive, he certainly was THE MAN! I listen to all his music now!

Kinda off topic but I find this interesting...I was riding a few months back with my 22-yr old daughter & the song Mack the Knife was playing.
I ask her if she was playing that for my benefit. She said no that she liked it & lots of songs by Michael Bublé....
Uhh Honey, I say, that song is something your Grandparents would have listened to.

Anyway it turns out this Bublé guy has recorded a lot of this style I call Rat Pack music & at least some of the younguns are really into it...Go figure   :clueless:

Personally I like "rat pack" music.  And you made a very good point.  To take it a step further, I've been a BIG blues fan for years..... there's only a gazillion songs out there that were ol' blues tunes. Done by zeppelin, van halen, ect ect.....

He had a couple of songs that I liked. "Suspicious minds", is probably my favorite.

For the most part though, I wasn't into his music. I suppose women helped his record sales just a bit.   :grinyes:

I don't understand music snobs, if you like it then it's good. I hear it all the time someone will say they don't like Country, or Jazz or Rap and when you ask them they say they NEVER listen to it. Last night I was switching cable channels from Metal Mania, to Country Classics, to MTV Hits & heard something I had never before on all of them that I liked, if I didn't I just changed the channel again.
