No turn signals!
« on: August 04, 2013 - 06:00:42 PM »
Got in the hardtop and I haven't got any turn signals and no brake lights?   Are they on the same fuse?   :dunno:

Check fuse number 8. Should be a 20 amp fuse.

So does the turn signal flasher affect the brake lights?

It shouldn't normally. But if you have a short from one circuit to the other then it may effect it.
If I cant fix it, it's broke

I don't think the flasher itself, but according to the service manual for a 73, ( I have a 73 Challenger)  they are the same fuse.

If the problem isn't a fuse, check the turn signal ribbon cable in the steering column. Maybe the connectors came loose?(You should see one at the bottom of the column). The other place it could have come loose is behind the driver's side kick panel. That's where it connects to the rear wiring harness. I'm just going by 1970 knowledge...

Are your front turn signals doing anything?

Ok so I have checked all the fuses and all are good.  I have all running lights, I have brake lights and headlights. . . . Just no turn signals.  I do have emergency flashers?   Usually I would hear the flasher tic toc but got nothing . . .

Looking for suggestions now?   If I can't find what I need local, will be at the MOPAR Nats in a couple days and can get it there !

Replace the flasher? Cheap enough to try? Mine was clamped to the dash housing beside the ash tray?

There are 2 flashers.  One for the hazards, one for the turn signals.

I believe the hazards are located near the column and the turn signals are next to the ash tray.

Get a 521hd flasher at your local auto parts store. As Brad said, you should have 2 flashers. One for turn signals
and 1 for hazards.

Ok found both flashers . . . I didn't know the flashers were on a different unit.  Can I plug in the flasher unit on the turn signal plug to check it?  I tested for power at the turn signal unit and had none while the signal was suppose to be on . . .  :clueless:  I will say the turn signal unit has seen better days . . .

I believe the flashers are technically different but you can interchange them. The turn signals might flash a little bit
faster with the hazard flasher in place of the t.signal flasher.

Well I plugged in the flasher unit into the turn signal plug and still got nothing?   Since there was no power there, I'm not that surprised . . . Any more ideas?
