Mancini 120 amp alternator: POS in my case
« on: August 05, 2013 - 08:19:45 PM »
Mounted it, its straight forward:  I tripled checked all connections before starting her up

Started car, no output was noted in voltmeter.   Battery level output was at 10.5 on my handheld, and did not go up when accelerating

Put my old one (60 amp) back on, works great at 13.5 idle, 13.8 on accel

POS:   You can bet Ill be sending it back to Mancini:  BIG waste of my time

Sorry to hear that,

I'm the market for an alternator too and I don't know which model to go with. Currently I have a power master 3 wire hook up and it doesn't charge at idle with headlights and Fog lights on. Moving it's fine. When the lights are off its fine too.

Chrycho   :

Just contacted them  I just called them and went thru the return policy :

I just mailed them back the alternator at $21 shipping, which I have to pay.  I dont believe I should be charged shipping to return a defective item.  It wouldnt be so bad if say, I was given 421 on my next purchase

So basically, an over $220 purchase just became $21 more expensive on my end

Myself, I wont deal with them again

Did you talk to the Manager there , I agree they should pick up the tab on shipping back junk parts or test them before they leave . Usually you shake the tree you will get results .
I bought a die cast funny car on Ebay & they put it in a box with no packing , busted the car to pieces , he was willing to refund the $$

I didnt talk with the manager:  While I agree,  talking with internal higher could yield + results (which I didn't consider), policy should be standard to dont change for return shipping.

But what happens when the customer damages the part ( not suggesting that you did) ? Why should the supplier pay for the shipping?
I've seen way to many electrical parts returned where there was actually nothing wrong with the part (ie bad diagnosis) or
the customer shorted wiring and damaged the component. Maybe policy should be to refund shipping after inspection?
If I cant fix it, it's broke

Sorry folks,  I cant defend a vendor who charges for return shipping when you get a part in the first place that doesn't function:   I cant speak for every possible case that could happen, only in mine.  Its just my personal opinion in my particular case

Hey Doc,

Which 120 Amp Alternator on Mancini's web site are you talking about?

The Closest one I see is the GM power master that's 140 AMP. Do you have the link?
