Exhaust manifold question
« on: August 10, 2013 - 03:49:41 PM »
I've thrown out the Hooker Super Comp Headers I had on it, and bought two stock HP exhaust manifolds. Reason for that was I had to remove the starter, and it was basically sitting behind bars with those headers on, and then as if that was not enough I had to work really hard to even get the headers off it cause theres no room for anything anywhere down there. I'm no gynocologist, and I just cant work under such conditions so I threw it out.

Now ofcourse, I face a new problem. On the passenger side manifold. How the hell am I supposed to get a nut on that one screw that sticks out of the block...? You cant get a socket into the hole that will also fit the nut ?

Also - is the threaded holes in the block where you fasten the exhaust manifold connected to the coolant area? If you leave a screw out, will coolant come out that hole? It seemed like it did on mine..?

The manifolds need some special nuts that look like the attached photo.  They come in two lengths.  And yes, the studs go into the water jacket, so goop them up.

best goup is white plumbers thread sealant

Does the plumbers sealant hold up to the heat of the heads?  I'd be concerned it would break down over time.

The green plumbers sealant is made for high temp. The white stuff breaks down a bit easier.
If I cant fix it, it's broke
