high ambient temps and pinging

Will outside air temp affect/cause pinging under heavy acceleration? 

I recently got the car running this January, it has been running quite well. But the other day while driving its pinging  under acceleration, it seemed worst when with the A/C on too. The outside temp was well over 100'  8) (welcomed  to the desert southwest, but I will be cursing all winter long  just trying to survive June-August).  Will the high ambient temps cause this situation, I am running premium fuel 91-92 octane.

915 heads (mild head work, stock bottom end 10/9:1 compression)
A518 2600-2800 Stall
4.10 rear gear
TTI headers with 3' exhaust with  X pipe 
comp XE274H cam

Holley Street Dominator intake
MSD ignition

yes, particularly if the coolant temp is way up there

yep, forgot to specify that hot air, while less dense which makes the engine richer, is easier to ignite so a cool air system helps a lot

Build you own , dryer tubing hood scoops opened , any airflow possible through the engine compartment helps

Has anyone on here ever made the scoops on their e-body functional for that purpose? Seems like a cool project! I would love to see it

Sure Cardboard should be effective  :smilielol:
 The most efficient place is a front air dam AAR/TA style or the base of the windshield / Nascar style , using dams around the car helps as well creating a vacuum under the which helps both aerodynamically & pulling heat out of the engine compartment from below .

if pinging, use high octane gas, dial back timing a few degrees, aluminum radiator
will keep engine cooler, lower thermostat.
