Glad you picked Option #2.

Also...long term mod:  I'd sell that grille if it's in excellent condition, for maybe $1200, and pick up a Metro '71 grille for the same coin.  And swap out the front valance for '71 style.

But...for $28k...I would think you can get a real '70 or '72-'74 'Cuda (not a '71) four-speed in almost as good a condition.  May not be as fast as either, but long-term, be a better investment.

ragtop, the grill looks brand new so it shouldn't be an issue selling it, I'll have to check around.  As far as finding a real 70, 72-74 cuda for that price it's been next to impossible for me.  Any ones I did find in that range either needed a bunch of cosmetic work or the seller bever responded to me.  Heck, a guy has a local 318 car here that needs restored top to bottom and he's asking 17k !!  If you have any ideas I'm all ears.  I have one week.

In like the look of #1 better as I don`t think the Billboards look right on anything but a `71 and also the wheels are strange looking on #2 bt it would be a lot nicer driver. Even though they may be real nice 28K seems like a lot of money for any `72-74 `cuda.

Swapping from a 72-74 grill to a 71 grill is NOT a simple swap.....71 had a couple of extra headlights which make the fenders quite different. They do sell the reproduction pieces to convert the fenders, but it's not just a simple bolt-in and go..

The guy is looking for a "turn-key" driver...I don't think $28K is all that bad. You would never be able to start with a project of any kind and get to the same level for that kind of money.

HOWEVER I agree,  there are other choices out there for $28K.

My car is a 1970 318 automatic car. Now it is 440, 4 speed Cuda Clone with 500HP. I have 35 in it and am not done yet.

Fellas, I'm game for anything nice in my price range but I have yet to find it.  I just looked on cctol.com and searched every barracuda up to 35k in the entire country and got 5 results.  None of them were as nice as this one and most were still 318 cars.  Point me in the right direction, I'll look

At $35k youre talking about a whole different ballgame. You can find running project convertibles or nice clone cars like mine for that.
At $28k, if you love the car, its not a BAD price, just a little higher than I would pay, but, these cars dont grow on trees.
And of course, just because theyre asking $40, doesnt mean they wont take $35.

I don't think he'll go much less if any.  Ironically, I found the old add for the car still online from a year ago and the guy who sold it then had it listed for 28k so I'm guessing he got it a year ago for a few k less.  It did at least tell me that the car has the 340 bored .30 over and it has 4.11 gears in it.  I know for a fact it's the exact same car as it has the same floor mats, same wheels, same traction bars and same blue nitrous switch on the dash.   I am a little more concerned about the gears in this car now as from what little I know 4.11 gears aren't made to ride the highway too well.

But ya, if you're going all the way up to $35k, you can find some real good cars for that.  Which is probably worth going a little more now, then putting more money into a lesser expensive car.


REAL 'Cudas hold their values better IMHO and real FOUR-SPEED 'Cudas even more so.

May not be a real 'CUda, but I think for $25k, this ain't too shabby!

ALterkation, built big-block, Keisler 5-speed...too bad they didn't put in a 'Cuda rear valance tho, but can get one to retrofit and paint to match.

My 71 Charger R/T clone is 100% rebuilt I you can have that for 20k but I doubt you will want that

i know your dilemma, that's because i have both of them in the dodge version. but both are 4 speeds 


but IMHO, you made the right choice. if i had the choice between a stick and an auto. i'd choose the stick every time.
the stick is just more fun to drive. plus like everyone said, you could always hop up the 340. low 13's on the street
makes for a fun car!

but you gotta watch out, it get's addictive.............a little faster..............A Little Faster.................A LITTLE FASTER! ! ! ! ! ! ! !   

and another great point about a stick car is, you don't have to worry about stall speed when your picking your cam

Wow, I cant believe that blue 72 in Massachusetts is still for sale. I remember looking at that ad when I found my car over 4 years ago! Must be asking too much.
