Resto-mod????
« on: August 14, 2013 - 02:45:30 PM »
Ok, so I'm relatively new to the muscle car scene as I'm just getting my first one here shortly.  I know there's tons of ways to classify a classic car such as rotisserie restoration, frame off restoration, numbers matching etc... but I was wondering what actually classifies as a resto-mod?  Is it an older car with a newer engine?  When I say newer I mean, a 71 challenger with the hemi out of a 2012 challenger etc...  Is it a restored car that just has new parts but they're still the same as what would have come from factory??  Just trying to catch up on some of the terms.

Your first guess was right. A resto-mod could be an E-Body with a modern day Hemi with fuel injection.

When you get into terminology though, I don't know what you would call an E-Body with modern day suspension and modern day disc brakes.   :dunno:

Really any classic that is restored with some modern touches could be called a resto-mod, could be as minor as disc brakes and larger wheels and tires with a set if headers lol restoring a car and also modifying it....resto-mod

To me it's either original or not original!! Thats all that matters so I leave it at that. Anyone who tries telling me what my car is or is not can shove it! LOL

As the name implies... a restoration with modifications. And there is no such thing as a frame off resto on an e-body.  :grinno:
If I cant fix it, it's broke

With all the rusty cars being saved and frame rails being replaced I suppose they could be called frame off restos  :poopoke:

i always thought it was resto-mod-ern, never thought as it being resto-mod-ify

if that's the case, there were resto-mods back in the 50's
