Yes, it would be nice it had a numbers engine, but since it isn't, that gives you some freedom to do what you want under the hood.  And engine problems are much easier to fix than rust, so sounds like you are way ahead of the game with this cool car.  Congrats.

No doubt I'd have been happy with an AAR but I think I'm happier with a big block. I had a 383 once many years ago in my 69 Road Runner. That thing was a a whole bunch of fun, I'm guessing this will be even more so!

Yea definitely will be pretty fun in a smaller Ebody over the roadrunner.  Enjoy every minute of the resto  :burnout:

My plan of attach seems to be fairly clear now. As can be seen in my avatar the car shined up pretty decently with a little bit of Mothers Cleaner Wax and my car polisher. However, this car needs to be like new and it is going to be painted so the polish job is more like a bit of inspiration. I've scheduled with my paint guy for mid to late December, it seems he has 3 cars in front of me two of which he has to take apart and reassemble. That's okay, there is a lot I can do while I'm waiting. I will take the car apart myself and have already started with the interior. With such low miles I was torn as to how far I should go in terms of the dash. I decided to go for it and have completely removed it, the dash pad will need to be either restored or replaced anyway. As it turns out I'm glad I did because it became obvious that someone else had already begun trying to remove it because there were screws missing here and there. Both of the defroster vent screws on the passenger side were out. I know I'm going to hear it so I'll say now that I've bagged and labeled everything I've taken apart so far and will continue to do so as I go. The seats are all out and the headliner and carpet come out today. To bad the headliner has mouse holes in in it because otherwise it is beautiful, oh well. I pulled back the carpet on both sides to take a quick peak at the floor panels and while still searching for a build sheet. To my delight there is no rust! I think that this is going to turn out to be one of those cars that just didn't get its build sheet thrown in. I've looked under the carpet, behind and under the back seat, under the front seats, under the back panel on the front seats, and on top of the glove box with no luck. Not even a tiny bit of mouse chewed paper. I've heard it possible that it's on top of the gas tank or perhaps up in the head liner but at this point I'm not very optimistic I'll find it at all.

Yeah, that sure looks nice!

Too bad about the BS but that's the way it is for lots of us.
They are hard to come by. 
I'm on my 6th ebody and still have yet to find a BS.

Well, it's late December and the guy who was going to paint my car told me last week that he won't have time to do it at all. He has decided to finish up the projects in his shop and then retire. It's a bummer for me but I can't blame him, he's 76 years old. Another friend of mine owns a Mustang restoration shop and has offered to rent me a couple of bays in his shop month to month if I want to use them for my car. I would have a two post lift and access to the paint booth. I just retired myself last month so I think I'll take him up on the offer and do the car myself fulltime.

You might have a good turn of events as my paint guy says you never paint in the winter months or try to avoid it because of the amount of moisture in the air and you want to keep a constant temperature (which means you would have to find a heated booth) to get a good paint job. I'll be waiting till springtime to have a bit of touch up on my new yellow Cuda. She is running great now that I made some changes and I'm about to install the missing road lamps.

Keep putting up some pics on your build. I recently found a shop that allows folks to rent bays which have 2 post and 4 post lifts for a reasonable amount. Can't wait to try them out as its hard on the knees to keep crawling under the car.

I would be lucking out there because the mustang shop is heated and the booth is in the shop. Also, even though it may be cold and snowy outside, the air in Colorado is actually drier in the winter months than the summer. Still not completely sure if getting the shop is a done deal yet or not though, should find out in a couple days.

BS, BH, whatever! Low miles, little rust, nice options - that's one righteous ride and a great score! You have everything on there that a "Cuda" would have except the blacked-out tail panel and emblems. In fact, I would guess that a BH Barracuda with a 383-4, 4-speed is probably more rare than a BS Cuda with a 383-4 and a 4-speed.

Interesting that you are the third owner. So the second owner had it for 40 years? Drove it for 10 (73-83) and then tucked it away in storage for 30 years?. You simply don't see those kind of scenarios much. Got to ask ... how did the car come to your attention? Did the seller advertise it somewhere or was it one of those being in the right place at the right time kind of deals? I don't know what you gave for it, but it seems like a great score - I would rather deal with a basket case engine or driveline versus a basket body everytime. Look forward to following this thread to see how she comes out. Keep us posted!

Thanks for all of the encouragement everyone, I am excited to finally begin this project.

This was definitely a "right place at the right time" kind of deal. Here's the story for those interested: My friend who owns Colorado Mustang here in Aurora introduced me to the owner at a local car show. He is a Shelby type who owns several show winners of his own and just didn't feel it anymore for the Barracuda. I had my 70 Duster in this show and as an obvious Mopar guy he so told me about this Barracuda in his barn that he was thinking about selling. It was on a Sunday and by Thursday afternoon I had it safely tucked away in my garage. This car had been purchased from the original owner in 1973 by an individual who is no longer with us. He did the usual things to it, headers, side exhaust, traction bars, big wheels, etc. But what he did the most was race the crap out of it. As I understand it he was a paint and body guy and one time after he squired into a highway marker and did some damage to the passenger quarter he made the repair and decided to repaint the entire car. Although the color is close I don't think the red he repainted it with is the original Rallye Red the car is supposed to be. In 1983 the car needed some mechanical repair and my guess is he either didn't have the funds or the interest to fix it so he put the car in storage. This guy was a heavy drinker and ended up dying in 2006 of liver failure. His best friend who helped to terrorize the streets in this car back in the day decided he should purchase the car from the estate with the intent of restoring it as a tribute to his deceased buddy. This is the person I ended up buying the car from technically making me the 4th owner, he never did anything to the car other than to tear down the motor and let it set for another 7 years.

Anyway, today is the day! I made my deal with the Mustang shop to rent a couple of their extra bays for as long as I need to work on my car and I am moving it over there today. I am excited, I just sold my business and am officially retired so I can work full time to get her back on the road. I will post pictures all along the way starting this evening with shots of my new digs. For a bunch of Mustang guys I have to say they are excited that I am moving in with this car and have offered any assistance I may need along the way. This may be a case of the orphaned wolf being raised by the foster German Sheppard mother.  :roflsmiley:
