Wow not only did you score the real estate needed to get the job done you retired!!! I'd call that a 2fer.  :cheers:

I recently found a place where you can rent bays with 2 and 4 post lifts which I'm excited about using. Just got some shocks for the Yellow Cuda which I will use the lift for (not really necessary but a good excuse to put the car in the air and check out the place).

This was definitely a "right place at the right time" kind of deal.

Yup! Most of the great scores are made that way. Timing is everything - unless you hear about it "from a friend of a friend" which is probably the second best source of great scores. :grinyes:

Since I got it back:

1) changed out the plugs, wires, rotor, cap and coil
2) removed the carter for a holley 770cfm
3) re-instituted the windshield wiper bottle and motor and hot dang it works! Thanks to Dave from Roseville!!!
4) going to put the fog lamps back on and the wiring necessary and I'm about to put them on.  Thanks to Dave from Roseville!!!

The car now runs like a raped ape with the new Holley carb and I can probably get some more performance by doing some distributor work. I found a timeslip in the car which only shows a 15.5+ sec 1/4 mile time and now I think I can easily put her in the 14's.

All in all with your help I think I got a great deal for 2 reasons, there wasn't anything majorly wrong with the car and I can fix it up as I drive it. I'm really enjoying this build because once I finish something I can jump in the car and drive it and she still looks good!

I really should update my resto thread but I'm getting over a nasty cold, updates forthcoming....

 :working: Finally got started tearing down today. Valances, bumpers, grille, tail lights, gas tank, steering column, and nearly everything in the engine compartment is all out and properly labeled. On Thursday I'll get the k-member and front suspension out along with leaf springs and rear end. I'm still in the air as to how I want to proceed with the paint. :clueless: I am working in a shop with professionals and getting different advice from each of them. Two of the paint and body guys think I should media blast the entire thing and start from scratch while the owner of the shop and one other body and paint guy both think that I should only straighten and re-paint.  They believe that the car is clean enough that it would be a shame to remove the original primer that they believe is better than anything I would replace it with. Another guy thinks I should media blast the underside, engine bay, and lower quarters only. Whew...I respect all of these guys but wish they were all on the same page.  :screwy:

Looking good. Reminds me of where I was a couple years back.  Re  media blasting, I media blasted my entire car, inside/out/top to bottom.  But then mine had a few lousy repaints also and wasn't as in as good of shape as yours is.  As far as the primer goes, I think the primers of today are light years ahead of what they had in 1970.  I had the shop that media blasted mine immediately spray it with black etch primer.  Then my painter sprayed another gray etch primer over that before he painted the car.  Also, our cars aren't going to be daily drivers and exposed to all the elements that they were in the 70s/80s.  If you're like me, the car will be a weekend warrior and  not driven, intentionally, in inclement weather.  :2thumbs:

Were you going to rotisserie resto this one? Got pics of the undercarriage? It seems from the other pics that it's pretty clean and if that is the case then I'd repaint the engine bay and then do body work and paint the exterior.

I guess it really depends how far you want to go and how much time you want to invest. I went and did a rotisserie resto on my other Cuda and I can safely say it will most likely add about 6 months to your total time when done. Then again I did subframe connectors, did some major chassis work and painted the interior as well. The one thing I can tell you is to keep track of everything with very specific detail on the parts and put them in bags that will not break. It's a real pain to search through everything for one small part you cannot find anymore.

Here are some pics of the bottom. I am planning to media blast and repaint the bottom. The way I'm thinking is that the k-member and rear end are coming out anyway (need to rebuild the k and changing leaf springs) why wouldn't I just go ahead and paint the bottom while I'm at it. Once I get it on the rotisserie I can take to the wash bay and pressure wash the bottom. Maybe if it cleans up decently I could paint prep it and spray but I'm thinking media blast would be better and quicker. This car is pretty much my job for now and I expect to work on it daily so my hope is that I'm not adding an extra 6 months by doing this.

Wow, that looks like a great find! I've never seen a BH Barracuda that came with a big block. I thought you had to get a BS Cuda or BP Gran Coupe to do that. Also, I didn't know that you could get the tail panel molding of a Cuda on a Barracuda and this is the first time I've seen the fish emblem on the tail panel. Learn some thing new every day. I'm sure it will look beautiful when you're done.

this is the first time I've seen the fish emblem on the tail panel.

Ya, the fish emblem doesn't belong there. The story is that the guys girlfriend wanted him to add it so he did. I'll be filling the holes before repainting.

Depends on how far you want to go.

I feel the car is worthy of a 100% ground-up restoration. Which means stripping the shell 110%..EVERY nut and bolt out of the car.

That's how I do it...
Here's my Challenger, first stripped and epoxy primed, then rust repaired with new panels in place, and finally a completed painted shell with full coverage of fresh products from bare metal up......NO future surprises of areas that were unattended.
