71 Cuda Is the OEM silver grill color same on the shaker
« on: August 19, 2013 - 01:22:48 PM »
Is the textured silver seen on 71 Cudas, if on the grill and on the shaker, the same color and texture?

The grill on a 1971 Cuda is either body colour or textured argent depending on the colour of the car. In 1971, 99.9% of all shakers were black, however a lot of people paint them textured argent.

If you're choosing to paint both your grill and shaker bubble silver, then the answer is YES they both should be the same textured argent paint.

 :iagree:
But I thought quite a few shakers were painted body color though most were black. Depended on the color.

I have seen sales brochure and  ads back from the day of a 71 Cuda, (red body, red grill)  with a red shaker.   Not sure the deal there.  I thought shakers were either black or silver

The ONLY body colour EVER available on a shaker bubble was FE5 red and that was ONLY available in early 1970. NOT 1971 at all.

Hi Alan,

I have to respectively disagree regarding the Argent color on the shakers.

Grill and center caps were the darker version. The Argent on Shakers were lighter colored.
Perhaps due to that another contractor tinted their paint lighter?

Hey, no worries here...I was actually making a general statement that they were painted "with the same textured argent paint"  I guess I left out "type" ......same type of textured argent paint.

:iagree: There are various shades of textured argent used throughout the years... :2cents:

Going back to the subject on the 71' shaker being black:

It didn't quite as flat as Organosol paint tone if I'm correct?
Was a little bit shinier I recall. What do you think?

Hmmm!
Add 20-30% gloss in the Organosol mix and shoot and see it it jives.

So if 99.9% of the cars had black shakers then who started the argent color with shakers? :smokin: :dogpile:

It all started back in 69'.
The first early promotional production runs had painted shakers. Namely the Red from what I recall.
I don't know of any colored shakers except of red that I've heard of.

Well problem was they needed colors for all the rest of the color optios?
So Argent was considered. Some rumors the painted Red produced glare I read before.

So back to the drawing board the styling designers then. and they chose black.

99.9% of 1971's were black to cut down glare as Topcat suggests..
Argents were a 70 thing...

I agree that silver argent was definitely a 70 thing, but I like it better than black so thats why mine is that color (of course mines a clone and they didnt offer limelight in 71 either)
Theres a local guy here with a 70 cuda and glossy red shaker, all original car, and beautiful.
