For me it would be the T/A. IMO, the best Challenger made.

Yes the total for 1970 V codes is 1640 with more 4 spds than autos....That's why they seem to pop-up everywhere for sale, and are valued much less then 71 V codes.

T/A for me ALL THE WAY!  Best looking Challenger IMO and way fewer real 340+6 cars than 440+6 cars.  The side exhaust, spoiler, fiberglass hood scoop, and T/A stripe (all factory) really make the car look special too.

FYI:

1970 T/A's 1,411 Auto / 989 4 Speeds = 2,400
1970 AAR's  1,604 Auto / 1,120 4 Speed = 2,724

1970 V codes (hardtops only)
Challengers = 1,936 (R/T & R/T -SE)
Cuda = 1,755

Unlike T/A's and AAR's, the 440+6 was put in B-Bodies so there's another 4,491 1970 B-Body 440 Six packs.  Bringing the total of 1970 440+6 to around 8,182 (plus few hundred convertibles).  AND they made 440 six packs in 1969 and 1971 too.  The 340+6 T/A and AAR is one year only 1970 and there are about half has many of them as there are 440+6.

Thought they built 2500 T/As?

Add another 296 for the RT / SE Challenger 440+6 in 1970.  Even though there are WAY more 1970 Challenger V codes than 1971 v codes, I get the feeling most people like the grille of the 1970 better.  Both are SUPER cool cars that I would love to own someday.  For me, the 1970 Challenger is the 2nd best looking muscle car very closely behind the 71 Cuda.

Perhaps the tail lights that make the 70 Challenger more popular than the 71?  Could just be me, but I love the full-length 70 Challenger tail lights.  That and 69-70 Charger are my two all-time favorite tail lights with a big gap down from there to 3rd place.

To the OP, for $18K less coin and 1 condition over 2 condition AND no build sheet for the 440+6, seems like the T/A is the way to go from an investment perspective.  However, if you plan to keep and drive the car and really want the extra power of the 440+6 then I can see buying the 440 instead.

Cody brought up some very interesting facts and figures about V code production vs J code....Makes the T/A even more of a "no-brainer" in my opinion.

For me...I've always been a Plymouth guy...If you asked my Top 5 favorite Mopars...Not a Dodge in the bunch.....

But when it comes to Challengers, hands down, it's 1971 all the way....I don't like the 70 grill or the tail lights, I much prefer the 71's as well as the side scoops and stripes....If I'm wrong....sue me :smilielol: and I'm not just saying that because I own one either....I've owned a 70 before as well.

I agree with Cody...BY FAR....the 1971 Cuda is the best looking E Body..... :worshippy

You should have worked a package with LMC for the purple/white 70 if you truly want a correctly restored car...I know auto is a killer on that car....but it's rolling around with a $135K restoration that even Mauro can't find anything wrong with...

Actually the 71 shaker convertible Challenger at LMC belongs to the same owner as the blue T/A...Package maybe ? :dunno:

Get it while you can if seller did not agree to deal with you exclusively. I am certain that there are a few others that are actively looking for restored TAs. The price might get bid up and you will not be looking at $18k difference and will make your choice more difficult.
