B body, vs E body
« on: August 25, 2013 - 09:49:25 AM »
Hey gang,
Made a good trade today, gave up a stock 727 tranny and BB motor mount brackets for what I believe to be a center console for a 72 B body ( I say this because on the underside of the console it says 72 B ???) for an automatic car, and an original slap stick floor shifter and linkage. (not sure if all linkage is there cuz I cannot remember what all is supposed to be there, been a long time since I've seen one) The console is one of the best condition console I've seen, I would say perfect. The door needs adjusted is all I saw. What is the difference between an E body console and a B body console. Would this be proper size for my CUDA?

Thanks Ray

I changed a Console & shifter from a auto '73 Charger to a auto '73 Challenger...parts were identical between those.

You are good to go on the console. Any E-Body console is the same as a 71-74 B-Body console.

The lone exception is the 70 E-Body console which was cosmetically different, but a 71-74 console would fit it just fine.

I have been told the 70 console has some type of seat belt holder or slot, where as the 71-74 has the ash tray. The one I traded for has the ash tray, but I have a 70 cuda. I am not concerned about my console being correct so I do plan on using it and I appreciate the info from all you guys. I would enjoy seeing a picture of the 70 console installed in a car with the seat belts in place so I would know exactly what is being talked about. If anyone has the time to post a pic, please do.

Thanks again Ray,

One other difference may be the style shifter handle, early models used a round knob and the shifter was made I believe with a round shaft, later years used the T-handle with a rectangular shifter shaft. Each also have a corresponding shaped hole in the shifter bezel.

The shifter I traded for has the T-handle and all the rods and pieces. I very well will need guidance when it comes time to put it in. What do you guys think about the trade I made? Did I do alright or not. FYI traded a stock 727 big block tranny and RB motor mount brackets for 72 chrysler co. console in perfect condition (no cracks or damage whatsoever) and the shifter and all accessories that looks to be complete. (one mounting bracket, the rod, boot and levers that go through the hump, and slap stick shifter that works correctly)?
