70 Cuda power steering gear box
« on: August 25, 2013 - 11:25:06 PM »

I'm having some issues with fitment of headers on my setup. I was wondering if someone could do a measurement of the stock power steering unit on a 1970 Cuda. I need the diameter width of where the steering shaft couple attaches to the front of the power steering gear box.

I'm thinking I don't have a stock power steering gear box or  ??????

I would really appreciate it!

Thanks,
Bryan

I just tried my best to measure mine ( it's installed in the car) and I got 4.6"  At that area I had to hammer the headers some on cylinder 3,5. I also ground down the steering box casting some also to get extra clearance. I just ground down the raised casting numbers.

Bryan if you are trying to mount the headers while the K frame is out of the car you might have the wrong tailshaft angle causing interference with the steering box.

Thanks everyone, I'm getting the same measurement.

I guess I can unbolt it and move it around to make it fit is what Jack I think is trying to say.

Jack - Thanks again for meeting me at Good Guys and letting me have the headers, they are a big help to me to figure out these kind of issues.

Ahh Jack was trying to tell me that the rear of the tailshaft is angled downwards causing a lack of clearance.

So now my new question is that if I put a level on the tranny is it supposed to be dead flat?

I have raised up the rear a bit and it seems to have helped a little.
