You're not the first, and won't be the last. When I first put the T/A hood (1970 hood latch) onto my 72 (completely different hood latch) I needed hood pins to keep it closed. Well one day was spent tinkering and tuning where I went for a short ride, came home and adjusted and went for another ride. For the sake of ease (and laziness) I only put 1 hood pin in. I was only going for quick rides, 25 mph or so. One time, I forgot the one pin, went for a ride, and discovered the hood gains lift just like an airplane wing at 25 mph. Thankfully it was still connected to the hinges. This kept the hood on the car, but also cracked and broke the main support structure underneath. Thankfully it was slow enough that I slammed on the brakes before it cracked the hood fully in half. I got lucky with no cosmetic damage on the outside and the hood still looks kinda normal when shut if I push down on the sides. Yet another thing to be fixed properly this winter.
