Insurance and winter storage
« on: August 30, 2013 - 09:19:25 AM »
I finally got the convertible out for the first time this year and had to change the insurance to active status . . . instead of storage insurance also known as fire and theft insurance.  So I drive it for the weekend and on Monday, I tore it apart to fix a couple issues.  I instructed the insurance company to put it back into storage and today I get this note:

Farmers no longer offers vehicles 1970 or older to be placed in storage.
WTF??   So now I am looking around to see who offers storage rates during the winter . . . .

No mine does not offer storage rates, but then again it's about $250 something for a years coverage at a 30K appraisal rate so I'm happy with that.

Same here...pretty reasonable at $313 fro the year with Hagerty.  Nice thing is that you do not have to call to activiate anything.  even if its nice out in the middle of winter, you can go for a spin!

Brad who are you with?

When I had my Stratus R/T, I only drove it in the summer.  During the winter months, I took liability coverage off the car which was the most expensive part.  So, if a big snow storm came and collapsed my roof, the car was still covered.

It cost me less than $200/yr for Hagerty.  My car is in pieces but still registered and insured.
Yes I own a 1972 Dodge Challenger Convertible T/A S/E with a 440 Six Pak. Can it get any more wrong?

That is weird? Maybe it depends where you live?  :dunno:

Surely insurance companies are not ripping us off?  :sly:

I'm with American Collectors Insurance.  Insured for $32k, and pay $152/ year.

No significant restrictions. Just need to keep it garaged at my place.

I take my liability off during the winter and carry the comp.  That covers anything from theft to fire and break in damage.  Costs me about $6 per car per year ($3 for six months).  I might be getting a volume discount.  :dunno:
The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realize it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it.

Mine is higher becuse i am under the custom plan.  Modifided cars apparently cost more to insure.
