E-body horns

ey gang.....

Getting ready to finish up the ole' engine compartment on my buddy's '71..  It is missing the original horns..... Are the E-body horns unique in '71 or will any year E-body work as well as those from the '71-'72 B-bodies? Are there difference in that some year E-body horns have removable brackets whereas some are like the ones I'm used to on my B-bodies in that that are fixed ( part of the actual horn body and not removable )..

Thanks in advance....... If anyone has a matching pair, please give me a shout... I'll place an ad too in the parts section....

Due to a variety of locations used in E bodys the horns change from year to year , 70-71 I believe are the same on the inner fender behind the washer bottle , I cannot remember if thebrakets is welded or bolted , I think they were welded on my 70

My 70 has one horn.   :o

The 70-71 horns mount on the passenger's side inner fender. They bolt on.

Just put my 70 horns on not long ago, they are bolted from inside the fenderwell.

Troy was asking if the bracket was bolted or welded to the horn unit not the inner fender , & yeah I was wrong the bracket bolts to the horn unit

I just did my horns. 70 Challenger R/T

I learned the following

1. These are date coded, date is stamped near the horn output opening on the side edge.
2. Dual horns used, one "HI" and one "LOW" - Hi is mounted on top, Low on the bottom.
3. Prestolite brand, not Sparton
4. Bracket bolts to the horn and bolts to the fender with "thru holes" (someone sold me a 70 Duster bracket and it ended up not being correct, so watch out for people saying different models fit).
5. Paint semi gloss black. Apply a thin coat as not to cover the numbers stamping or Prestolite embossing.
6. Horns are indexed so the sound opening is pointing downwards.
7. Use the specified horn bolts to mount horns to firewall.

I found this was a fun project...... :2thumbs:

I would be interested in the bracket if available. 

I've been on the lookout to replace that "70 Duster bracket" as mentioned. :droolingbounce:

             Reviving an old thread here. Both of our horns for the 70 Challenger build are Sparton's, both marked LO. Both tested, excellent condition, but I need a HI. Can purchase, trade, etc.
