Funny / maybe not so funny story that happened today
« on: September 06, 2013 - 05:58:57 PM »
A customer calls in early yesterday saying a transfer case we sold him 3 months ago broke in half. Ok my manager talks with him, he's 1 day out of warranty, but we're going to hook him up anyway. I question wether or not he put the proper oil in it. ( We've seen stranger things than that around here already) So he stops by today with his trans AND transfer case......... transfercase is fine... transmission if broke in half.... :nono:

Being in the appliance bus. for 30+years I've seen it all...People think everything that can possibly happen should be covered by warranty.

My question is how the #3!! does one break a tranny in half?...Wild arse 4-wheelin maybe & is that every covered by anyone?

Wade, I have no idea how you could crack the trans case all the way around, never saw it before. It didn't look like an "impact" situation. Don't know, don't want to, we laffed our azzaz off after the dude left...

not related but a tech at the local Toyota dealer told about a customer bringing in his Tacoma that would hardly pull, said it had been getting worse over the past several days. .
Put it on the lift & it had mattress wound around the drive shaft....wasn't a lot left but the metal springs.  :smilielol:

Tranny broke in half?  Never seen that before.  :faint:

The first generation '86-'90 Acura Legends used to have tranny issues if you spun the tires in the snow.  The diff. gears got too hot and the bolt holding in the shaft for the diff gears used to shear off and the shaft would shoot out of the tranny and if you saw tranny fluid leaking out, you knew it was new tranny time.  Once I saw a 1.5" hole blown threw the tranny case from that shaft, but never a case split in half!

I laughed so hard the first time I saw this photo:

Said she had an unexplained vibration.  I guess so.....
