Has anyone done business with Randy's Automotive?
« on: September 10, 2013 - 11:04:08 AM »
I'm not sure if this a proper question for this forum but I am looking for a local parts supplier / service so I can get the frame checked for alignment and media blasted prior to doing a full resto and later on make pickups on bulk orders (to save on shipping) for a cuda vert. I ran across Randy's Automotive in Fitchburg Mass. and was wondering if anyone had ever done business with them and if you would do so again?

Thanks
Mike

I'm guessing by your question you're local to Fitchburg?  I've known Randy for years and in my honest opinion he runs hot and cold.  I've dealt with the guy when he was super friendly we would hang out and talk, and other times if you weren't bringing money he wanted nothing to do with you.  I haven't dealt with him recently so I'm not sure how his business is doing these days.  My suggestion is start with small stuff and if he does you good, then continue business.  Shop around there are a few people in the area that can acquire parts, blasting etc.

I'm just over the border in NH. My stake truck can only make local non hi-way trips so I'm a little limited there. Thanks for your input. Did you find his work to be good? Like if I had him check the frame and if it needed tweaking, he could do a proper job of it? Was he decent on speed or do jobs tend to hang around a long time? To start off, my main concern is having someone insure that the frame is all set and braced before putting it on a rotisserie and cutting into it.
Thanks
Mike

I have no idea if he has a frame machine.  If he doesn't and you are meticulous bring it to a modern body shop that has the best equipment that can read the car.  There are a couple in the Fitchburg/Leominster area that should be able to do it.  If not, I got by with the specs and tape measure.  I was sure my car was tweaked but measuring from multiple points showed it was right where it needed to be.  Was your car hit, needing the frame pulled?  or are you just curious if you're in spec?

I can't speak to the quality of his outside jobs.  Most of his work I saw was cars he was building for himself, or flipping.  I had his workers do a fender and some other small stuff and they came out good.  But he took a while since it was small stuff.  Don't expect to get it back quick unless you're willing to pay.

I see you have a convertible as well.  If you're not going for 100% original I'd suggest some kind of subframe connector.  I put U.S. Car Tool ones under my car and they worked good so far.  I'm still in the building phase but now I can move the car without fear of cracking it in half!

I got a price of like $800 to blast a Cuda vert from the guy in Hampstead, NH his number is (603) 489-2442  www.classiccarblasting.com I never ended up using them but he sounded like a nice guy. I think its a husband and wife operation. Can't help you with Randy I've never met him personally but I have a feeling if you drop it there it will be there a long time and cost you a bunch of money.

Thanks guys. I'm more curious if its on spec or not (within tolerances) and want to make sure it stays that way during the resto. Its had some minor hits. I was looking at subframe connectors but decided to wait until the car was done to see if it still needed them. Thanks for the number Rocha. I will check them out.

Last I heard his business was pretty slow and may have shut down but he may still be open.   :dunno: Does great work at reasonable prices and is a Mopar guy.  :2thumbs: He`s done frame work on my Duster and my buddies truck. I worked right beside him years ago at Manchester Body and Frame.
