I'm posting this everywhere, so if you see it on another site, oh well.I hate these tick things so much I'd like to set the yard on fire & burn everything within 1000 feet of my house!
My daughter's 5, & was playing in the yard the day before yesterday since it was warmer out. She came inside for dinner, & since the weather is still fairly cool, we didn't think of checking her for ticks yet. She woke up yesterday complaining her eye hurt, so my wife starts to look. Damn tick attached itself to her lower eye lid just under the eyelashes. It almost looked as though she had a piece of lint stuck to her lashes & not a tick.
Being such a sensitive area, my daughter kept flinching & squinting making it impossible for either of us to grab the tick with a tweezer. We also know about having to get the whole blood sucking POS insect & not leave part of it attached. So..... a call to the doctor to be told to go to an eye specialist that now includes a day off work & a day of school missed.
My wife said it was awful at the doctor since she didn't want anyone to touch her eye. I don't blame her because I can't even put in eye drops without feeling as though it'll blind me. The good news is the tick is off, but she has to go back today after school & make sure all of it is gone so there's no infection.
This isn't the first time a tick gave us grief, our daughter had been diagnosed with Lyme before she was a year old. We never saw a tick, a bite or anything except the rash with the red ring. The strange part was that she had 5 or 6 rings in different places. It was treated with antibiotics right away so she is fine, but we can't help worry when we see a damn tick.
Please, anyone with kids in an area that has been know for ticks, get a magnifying glass, a telescope, a shop vac or whatever it takes & check them over when they come back inside.
Ticks aren't our friends.
