Thanks for chiming in Jaimie. I have always supported you as being in engineering myself I know the variables you had to go through to produce the product we see today. If there ever was a Tony award for mechanical products you should get one.
I just hope that my fellow listers contemplating a 5 speed truly consider other brand total price installed and realize your bolt in product is about the same cost at the end with the Passon bullet proof product you are known for. Also, my fellow listers, Jaimie is still there for you after you buy and install. A friend of mine can attest to that for the non-believers. I only wish I had more time to play before the snow flew.

OK I went for that last run on Sunday 3 Nov. Still no snow then and dry roads so no wheelspin issues like the day before.

Now that the emotional high has leveled off I can say that this gearbox shifts silky smooth and fast. Getting used to it is a bit slow but as Jaimie said it will loosen up with some use. I took the car to over 100mph (gets there right now anyway) in 4th and changed to 5th at that speed. The acceleration, cruise and deceleration is absolutely smooth in all 3 modes. No vibrations. The tranny was set in the stock position with no shims. Love that short throw on the shifter.

I know there are some CC.com people have ordered one of these units so hang in there. You will find the install experience to be a non-event. Just like changing out a stock 4 speed. I will post pictures of the linkage and shifter when I get home next weekend.

Just found this thread!    I'll start saving up for one myself! :2thumbs:  Curious to see the exhaust and why an "x" is a problem? Mine is further back ( magnaflow stainless system)

Brad, I forgot to take a picture of the linkage before modification. If you have ever come across the original 70 4 speed reverse rod it basically travels slightly forward. from the shifter lever, and around the rear transmission cross member and has ample clearance. The 72-74 units (don't know about 71) however, had this curve in them that swept toward the rear of the car then curved around forward. I have never figured out why they just didn't use the 70 style. Jaimie's design is similar to this later model method I just described. Most x-pipes have the x up around the end of the tranny and this curved rod interferes where the left exhaust starts to bend across to the right towards the x from the header or manifold. For my 4 speed and this 5 speed I simply made the rod look like a 70 unit as opposed to ripping apart the exhaust and modifying it. When I get pictures done next weekend this will be a lot clearer.

Cars were not checked with X's or H Pipes.  The only car that I see really being an issue is an E Body.  I realize this is them main crowd here.  For the record, we made and early E Body Reverse rod that follows same path as the factory 70-72 rod.  Barry got a '73-74 reverse rod because he has a '73 car.

You spoke to me about this tranny and after reading these posts I am salivating all over the place. Definitely is on my wish list.

Well Kevin, I believe the waiting list is about 7 months or so which means you will have time while assembling the rest of that car. Two ways to do this -1 talk to Brent at Gears To Go in Abbotsford or order direct from Jaimie
