E-Mail accounts
« on: September 14, 2013 - 09:12:34 PM »
I'd like your opinions, please. I use Hotmail for most things. The last couple of days, when I try to log in, Microsoft says they care about my privacy, and want to give me a 4 digit security code. They want my phone number for this. This, from a company that sold everything to the NSA and gave them backdoor access and programs to defeat encryption, and employees that worked hand in hand with NSA. lol. ROFLMAO!!! They care about my privacy. Now they want my phone number to give me this 4 digit code. What other email services are out there? I saw an ad in the NRA publication American Rifleman for a private email account. It is a fee based service. I don't like g-mail. What are you using? Is fee based the way to go? I trust EBay, Amazon.com and the NSA more than I do Microsoft. And I HATE the NSA.

Gmail is the only way to go.
Even though you don't like it, you will find it very versatile, easy to customize and it has fantastic spam and junk mail filters.

Probably doesn't matter who you get your email from.  If they want to read it they will.

I think the benefit of going with a paid provider is that they aren't going to sell your email address and this would cut down on spam.

Just my opinion.

I got the same message from Hotmail.

Like you i am skeptical on why they need to do this, and need a phone number. I know when I do enter the information, like my phone number it will be a fake number.

I closed my hotmail account last week for that exact reason. There is no way I'm giving them my phone number.

I have a little used phone number at work that I usually give out.  That seems to have worked out.

I got the same message.  I was skeptical but did it anyway.  I got a text message with the code and all is fine.  No problems on my end.  I have not gotten any calls to my phone trying to sell me something either.
