Yes , I use the 2x the CI guideline for carbs so 950 minimum for 512 CI
the SD or a larger single plane will work better with the larger CI the CH4b is very responsive and works well with less CI at lower RPM

I do not have anything yet, I'm just planning the rebuild, so I can get whatever parts are recommended.  I'll need whatever is not included with the 440source stealth heads and any possible changes to what they include.

After looking at the Lunati catalog (the web site doesn't show nearly all the mopar items), I'm now leaning towards 20230712 hyd roller cam, which I think brads70 ended up using.  That way I won't have to worry about any flat tappet issues.  Would that cam work just as well?

I don't see a price on Johnson lifters web site, how does it compare to Lunati lifters?

Also, I've seen you guys mention the PRW rocker arms so I'm leaning that way.

Yep that's what I used.
I would buy the lifters elsewhere , I have had problems with Lunati

:scared:  now ya tell me!  so far so good with mine? What kind of trouble did you have?

brads70, other than engine size, I'd like to be similar to your build.  I'd love to have an overdrive tranny and a nicely built Dana 60.  Anything you would have done different?

I would have went with 3:73 gears instead of 3:55. Oh ya..... don't use a gear drive , too noisy!  :eek4:

the groove in the lifter for oiling was too low so with the lifter all the way down in the closed valve position it bled off oil pressure wiping the main brgs

Hopefully you don't experience any issues with the lunati lifters but I'll go with Johnson's.

I agree about the gear ratio, I was thinking 3.73 because anything higher might be overkill for my use.  It might be fun to have 4.10 though

I'm not familiar with gear drives, I know what they are just not the pros and cons.  What made you choose it for your build?

They are supposed to be very reliable. Won't break?

If we are talking using the same cam from a 440 or a 470 ci then wont you be leaving a lot of performance on the table if you dont match it to your exact application 505/512 ci?  There are many factors in selecting a cam.

the same as putting the same cam in a small block or big block the stroker can use more cam & remain streetable , the extra 60-70 CI will lower the rpm of any cam . EFI is even more crazy , using a race cam the engine will still sound dead stock

I was hoping to stick with a hydraulic roller cam.  Lunati lists only one more aggressive hyd roller cam, 20230713, unless they do custom grinds.  The advertised duration is 292/302, lift is .560/.565 w/ 1.5 RR.  Would this cam be better for me?

For the record, I already knew the answer to this question.  But I wanted to get it out there.  You should talk to someone who knows cams for your CI and application/goals ect.  and get a recommendation.

Depending on what you are using the engine for a 300 * advertised duration would seem to be too much for what you are doing
