Wiring diagram
« on: September 16, 2013 - 12:11:07 PM »
I am at the point with my car where I am starting to look at the wiring.   I have the 1971 Body Service and Chassis Service Manuals.  Looking at those drawings and trying to trace down which wire goes where started to make my eyes cross.  I decided to redraw them in AutoCAD.  I included wiring for options that most cars would have, but I left off some stuff for small things like the speaker wiring, overhead console, etc.  Everything all jumbled together on a couple pages in the manuals was confusing to me so I split things out towards the front of the car, the engine bay, inside the car, and at the rear.  I drew the lines so the color of the line is the color of the wire and the line has the wire designation on it.

The wires are also drawn on different layers.  If you click on the first picture below it shows a shot of everything in the engine compartment.  With the PDF version you can disable the layers of items you don’t want to see.  Clicking on the second picture you only see the ignition circuit.  This way you can cut down on the clutter.

For some reason these pictures are a little fuzzy, but looking at the PDF everything is clear and you can zoom in on stuff.  I’m still in the process of putting stuff on layers and fine tuning some of the lines, so this isn’t a 100% finished product.  I also need to check it for accuracy, I just assumed what is shown in the manuals is correct for what actually made it in our cars.

So what to you guys think?  Is this worth a crap, or have I wasted countless hours?

I can't upload the PDF so if anyone wants this let me know.  I got busy at work again so it may be a bit before I am 100% done.  I plan on plotting out one on 30”x40” paper and laminating it.

Kyle

What I was going to do is open the PDF take a screen shot, size it, clean it up and then post a .jpg.

That's it!

Thanks for your help HP!  The pics are good, but having the PDF so you can turn off the other "layers" is the biggest benefit.  The offer is still there if anyone wants the PDF.  I plan on putting a few more small finishing touches on it but it is basically good to go as is right now.

I'd be up for doing a diagram for the '70 Cuda.  I'd have to imagine that it would be pretty similar.  Do you have the '70 Plymouth body and chassis service manuals?   I've got about 45 hours into this drawing, so if it isn't too involved I'd make another one.

This afternoon I had them plot off a 30"x42" and 16"x22" version.  The bigger one is super easy to read but kind of hard to handle, the smaller one is perfect sized but the text on the wire is a bit small.

Colorado, are the red arrows to show the connectors orientation?  That is one thing that I wasn't able to look at to compare from the service manual to my actual wiring harness.  I think the manual shows the connector as if you were looking at it from the wire side with it being plugged into something.  To me it would make more sense if they would have showed the connector as if you had unplugged it and were looking at it from the terminal side.   :dunno:

I have made some more upgrades to my original copy, if anyone wants the PDF of the newest version shoot me a PM with your e-mail and I'll send it to you.
