I am at the point with my car where I am starting to look at the wiring. I have the 1971 Body Service and Chassis Service Manuals. Looking at those drawings and trying to trace down which wire goes where started to make my eyes cross. I decided to redraw them in AutoCAD. I included wiring for options that most cars would have, but I left off some stuff for small things like the speaker wiring, overhead console, etc. Everything all jumbled together on a couple pages in the manuals was confusing to me so I split things out towards the front of the car, the engine bay, inside the car, and at the rear. I drew the lines so the color of the line is the color of the wire and the line has the wire designation on it.
The wires are also drawn on different layers. If you click on the first picture below it shows a shot of everything in the engine compartment. With the PDF version you can disable the layers of items you don’t want to see. Clicking on the second picture you only see the ignition circuit. This way you can cut down on the clutter.
For some reason these pictures are a little fuzzy, but looking at the PDF everything is clear and you can zoom in on stuff. I’m still in the process of putting stuff on layers and fine tuning some of the lines, so this isn’t a 100% finished product. I also need to check it for accuracy, I just assumed what is shown in the manuals is correct for what actually made it in our cars.
So what to you guys think? Is this worth a crap, or have I wasted countless hours?
I can't upload the PDF so if anyone wants this let me know. I got busy at work again so it may be a bit before I am 100% done. I plan on plotting out one on 30”x40” paper and laminating it.
