Need help buying 1st Cuda and muscle car!!!
« on: September 19, 2013 - 01:06:20 AM »
I recently found this on craigslist and would like some advice on what to ask and if it's a good deal.  I know these cars cost a pretty penny, but my dad used to have one and would love to get one back on the road for him.  Any help would be great.  Seems like a good deal, especially if I could get it under $10,000.

Thanks in advance even if you just read it!

Is the car located close to you so you can get a better look at it? Does it have a build sheet or fender tag to go with it? In the pictures I saw no fender tag. Are you after a driver or do you intend to restore it?

It's about 2 1/2 hrs from me and waiting to hear back on the fender tags. I want to restore it to drive occasionally. Didn't ask about a build sheet.

looks solid at least , 71 front seats lots of things missing or wrong but decent car see what he would take as an offer on it . DO you have the VIN ? Probably not overly valuable , 318 car originally ? it could make a nice driver . Body & paint could run 10-20 K easy interior could be 2-3 k etc

The ad stated it's not numbers matching, so most likely a 318 conversion or a 6 cyl or a 340.

I'd say to get over there and see how much rust it has, if it's not that bad jump on it.

Expect to have $35K-$40K into it when you're finished. If you're okay with that number, then just go and buy a done car :2cents:

The flipside of the coin is that if you spend the $$$ then you can do the car anyway you like.

Kinda what I have done and Brad has done.

Spending more when you purchase a car will almost always save you $$ as most of the work will already be done usually at a loss to the builder but it is harder to come up with the lump sum .It always looks more attractive to spend less up front & pick away at improving the car but a lot of cars get abandoned mid project or get disassembled & never reassembled . To their credit a lot of people here like Brad have never lost focus & continue to evolve their cars .

Where's the "nail on the head" smilely when you need it....

I've delt with too many people who start something and NEVER see it through...happens all the time, especially to these "1st timers" :2cents:
