    The good ol' value question..

    Hey Guys,

     I'm new to the board and I'm very interested in Challengers. I've read alot, but never posted. Here's my question, I know it's been asked a million times, but please help me out. What is a 1970, or 1971 chally with a 318 in good running condition with little to no rust worth?(#2 car) The Gold Book says around 9 to 10 K. Is this correct? Any information would help me out. Thanks alot.

    It's tough to say without seeing pictures, but I would think a little more than that. 12-15K.

    Hey Geordie,  Welcome you to the BEST mopar site on the web. Although I'm not an expert on prices all e-bodys are going up in value. I would think somewhere in the 10-15K neighborhood would sound about right. Again welcome and I'll let so other members weigh in on the value question. Also be sure and post some pics. We love pics.

    Welcome to the board Geordie!  I see you have excellent taste in cars!  I don't know that I would spend 15K for a 70 or 71 318, but probably more like 10 - 12K.  The 70's and 71's will always be going for bigger money than the 72 - 74's.  You got your eye on something right now?

    Hey,

     Thanks alot for the quick responses guys! I don't have anything on my eye right now, but as a university student I think the 318 is more in my price range and you can't beat that sleek e-body. I'll be looking to buy in the upcoming year.

    Welcome to the site, Geordie.  Hopefully you'll find something once you're out of college.  I too am currently at college, but I managed to find my '73 back in my Junior year of h.s. so I'm fortunate I didn't have to pay too much for a project.  From the way it sounded, you plan on purchasing one that's mostly finished so that'd probably be the better route cause complete restorations become expensive in no time.  Best of luck with it man!

    I too am in college.....I inherited my car at age 15 for practicly free and I have been spending money on it since than. For the last 4 years pretty much all of my money goes into the car. Up to date, I have about 10k into the car and it still needs to be painted and bodywork to be finished. In the end, I will have about 15k in it PLUS all the work I did on it.....For that price, I could have bought a nicely done 340 car and been cruizin around in it. So take it from someone that is pretty much in our position....Go buy one thats pretty well done and if you want to restore something....wait five years till you have the time, money, tools, and space to work on it.....

    KM has a good point....  you might not want to wait as long as it take for a resto...  some of ours have going on for 5 years... if it looks good, and runs good, get it and have fun for a while-  then you can settle down when you can make a time commitment

    It is going to cast $$$ anyway you look at it. But if you can afforad a turn key car I feel that is the better situation, because their is "no waiting", you can drive it today, and anyone of us here who has restored a car will tell you most always a resto. project will cost more than what the equilivent finished car will sell for. The decision comes in what you can afford now, and how long are you willing to wait to burn off those first set of skins,lol.  Either way your going to end up with the best muscle car on the street - a MOPAR !  :burnout:
