OK..........laugh if you want to....paint job...$60.00
« on: September 21, 2013 - 05:11:56 PM »
Over the past few years I have painted my 1984 Toyota truck a couple of times......I just redid it again in August.  I used Rust-Oleum, hammered paint in the spray can......Silver color.....I did this back in 2003 and it lasted about 6 years...I did it again in 2009 with another color which was the Bronze color, same brand.   This didn't hold up as well...........So I went back to silver.......Since this truck has over 270,000 miles on her......I just wanted to prevent any more body rust or whatever....patched a few rust spots and sprayed.........I think she turned out well..........

Takes a nice picture & the old truck looks to be in amazing condition for the miles & age.

Did you get an even finish, or is it blotchy?
I tried to spray a large area an never could get an consistant color.

How many cans is that?

This time it only took about 8 cans.......  $5.97 each at walmart...........then the sand paper and such for the rest of the cost....

Did you get an even finish, or is it blotchy?
I tried to spray a large area an never could get an consistant color.

Actually the only blotchy part is the hood.........the other panels were painted as a panel, not the whole side at a time.  This gave the paint an open time and did not collect the overspray to make it dull.  The hood is just large......I am wondering if I removed it and painted it standing up I would have different results....

...
Takes a nice picture & the old truck looks to be in amazing condition for the miles & age.

I bought the truck new in 84.......just tried to take care of her......only one new clutch, a rocker arm assembly, a couple of water pumps, radiator.......STILL HAVE THE ORIGINAL SHOCKS ON HER.......!!!!

Did you pull the engine to "freshen up" the engine compartment?  :roflsmiley:

On a serious note, how about the gap between the cab and the bed, just took care of where the paint could throw?  I assume that's what they do at Earl Scheib.

Looks great none the less.  Hopefully you'll get another 20 years and 200K out of her.

Didn't your finger get tired?
Whenever I try painting large areas with rattlecans my fingers get really tired and sore!

Your truck looks great BTW.  well done. :clapping:

Thanks for all the complements......again.....she is old and who wants to invest a lot of money in a paint job that would cost maybe more than the value of the vehicle...........but........who can establish a value on such a good truck.......??

As far as my finger gettng tired.............Also at Walmart, I bought a couple of handles that attact to the top of the can and its just like using a spray gun.....pull the trigger and go.........very easy
