Hmmm.   I get the feeling you would handle it differently.  Help a newbie out!

Well since you asked...I would restore the whole car... :wave:

But if that's not in the cards, you could remove the ugly patch...buy a new new reproduction floor pan section from AMD, cut out the old and weld in only what you need. I say buy the reproduction floor pan so that you get the correct details in your patch as opposed to a flat piece of tin :2cents: I would have this professionally done, tig welded preferred.

If it were a hemi I might replace the whole pan.  I saw a left front section for $199 on the AMD website.  I thought I might order that, have a pro weld it, and clean up the rest of the Entire pan, hit it with wire brush and rust remover, then coat with white rustoleum primer before installing the carpet.  Should that protect adequately if done right?

Also, should I rust proof the bottom of the patch before dropping it off for welding?  I can't get under the car at home.

I paid for an inspection of my FE5 red Challenger through roadreadycertified.com - which I found on classiccars.com. As I live in Australia I wanted to make sure I was getting a good car as an inspection was impractical.

The report didn't mention the entire trunk was still painted in bronze (original color). I got tons of pics but in really bright sunlight which made the colour impossible to tell it was bronze, not red. Nor did it mention that the boot had rust and several small holes under the trunk mat that was not pulled back in the report.

I feel your pain. I will NEVER EVER buy a car sight unseen again.

Pans look stock.  I wouldn't replace the whole front pan for that area.  I'd get a section from any of the restoration suppliers (AMD has nice stuff) and cut out what is bad and patch in a good piece.  I'd but weld it too.  You may have to clean up the underside as the heat will burn away any primer and undercoating.  As for low milage car getting rust?  It happens.  could have been a small leak in windsheild that dripped water down and it sat.  Normal wear and tear on drivers side would have worn away any paint allowing rust to start.

I bought a left front correct replacement this week at Year One, mostly because I live five minutes from their warehouse and avoided shipping costs.  I am prepping it now with metal ready and have a welder buddy all set to cut and weld tomorrow.  Will probably waste 2/3 of a $90 part once it's cut, but the replacement will have correct grooves, etc.
