I'm also considering to add some kind of small class-1 hitch to my Challenger.. as I want to be able to tow one of those small Harbor-Freight type of trailers with my 4 road race/autocross tires (Hoosier A6 275-45-16 on 16x10 rims) for a typical day's event at local road race courses... I really want to get back into "hi-speed autocross championship series competition" for next year (2014) with a well-established sports car club that I'm becoming more active with.. For the last ~4 years I've been their "Pace Car" for some of their wheel-to-wheel road races (Midwestern Council of Sports Car Clubs - Wis, ILL, Mich). I'd like the hitch to be as un-noticable as possible; thought of having one made to fit where the license plate is, maybe attached to the inside of the bumper. Or else, attached to the lower frame rails.. again, favorably not so obvious.. and preferbly fairly easy to remove for shows, etc.. maybe even at the day's race event.
Any ideas like what I've described? I used to own a 73 Challenger that had a factory class-2 hitch (and I use to flat-tow my T/A behind it if I'd go to out-of-state race events!) That hitch was excellent but a bit too large for what I'm wanting now. I may also talk to local hitch shops and see what they have to suggest. I don't want it to be big or heavy... just a class-1 would probably work OK to haul the little tire trailer.
I miss my custom-built full-size open trailer that I recently sold (to a friend, could borrow occasionally), as well as miss my old 2WD 2500 Suburban... maybe in ~5 years, probably longer, I could get this setup again.... (Family expenses have major priority in recent years and ahead, too.... but somehow I'm going to try to get these ideas moving forward.)
