Pistol Grip installation question
« on: April 02, 2005 - 02:16:10 PM »
The T/A I just purchased has a Hurst racing shifter the kind where you just move it up and down. For downshifting you have to pull up this lever and I hate it. I'm going to install the factory Pistol Grip Shifter and wanted to know if there are any tricks when doing this. Just wondering if there's anything to be aware of when adjusting the rods ect. Thanks

Its pretty straightfoward, make sure you have the correct shifter mechanism, levers, and rods. The only tip I have for you is to use a drillbit to line the shifter mechanism levers up(theres a small hole for this on the mechanism), than adjust the rods accordingly. You may have to adjust them more than once, it took me two times before it stopped crossing the gears. Ohh and the levers on the trans have two holes, the ones that are closer to the lever are for short throws and the ones farther are for long throws. Good luck.

Thanks for the advice ! Do you recommend the long or short throw ? Just curious if one seems to be better than the other ? Thanks again !
