Help WIW 71 'Cuda
« on: September 29, 2013 - 02:18:25 PM »
I need help with this car WIW, is it worth the trip or not 800 miles extra singel way from Atlanta, anyone here seen it in person and know good and bads about it, it has already sunk from $179.000 to the bid they gave me after I gave them an offer and I still think thats a little bit high, information that I not can find anymore is rebuilt "date coded engine" rebuilt tranny from 1972 obviously not matching, not born with Plum Crazy, not original fendertags but do have 2 buildsheets, all help is really appreciated.

I'm sure big money was spent to get the car to this condition, but too many things bring down the value.

Non-matching engine, and a 383 at that,  $75-80k IMO

This is the nicest looking 1971 Cuda convertible out there ! TOO BAD IT"S NOWHERE NEAR ORIGINAL !

Why the heck would anybody pay top dollar for a car that has had so many changes done to it's originality ?

There is a reason that original 71 Cuda convertibles bring big bucks when they are originally optioned like this one, and that's because they are very rare, and few and far between.

If you want to take a "less" car and option it like this one, then expect to pay "less" money not the same amount as the top dogs....

I agree, this one has way too many changes to even break the $100K mark in my opinion...
There is another original FC7 one floating around for sale at $105K....much better deal in my opinion. :2cents:

Thanks, when I gave them my offer I didn't expect to hear from them again but they did answer so I think they are aware of the cars real value or the lack of buyers who will pay top dollar for this car, 4 more weeks before I arriwe to USA so please just let me know what you think is realistic to pay for it, + for this car is it's not cloned with a Hemi, I have a bunch of them at my list, a convertible is a cruiser not a racecar.

I think you're asking two different questions. "What's it worth ?" and "What will someone pay for it ?"

Two different answers....

It's one of the nicest looking 71 Cuda convertibles currently on the market, however being priced in the six figure range you have a very narrow buying market for this type of car.

First you have the serious Mopar collector who invests his money in the rarest of the rare.....He's not going to touch this one with a ten foot pole because of all the changes listed earlier. He wants correct numbers matching, restored properly, cars only.

Then you have the disposably income guys, who just really like the look of the car and want to actually cruise around and show it off. Knowing a little bit about the values of the car he knows he doesn't want a clone, but rather an original car. He doesn't have the patience to wait for 100% correct car he likes, and doesn't really care...just wants a cool ride that won't depreciate over night.

This car is being aimed at buyer number two....The dealer thinks they can ask the moon for it figuring somebody will step up because it's such a beautiful car....however they're quickly learning that their intended market is really small.

So with that being said....I do think the value is under $100K for sure, but based on the car's looks, there will be a buyer somewhere to give the dealer their asking price. I would say that the best price from the dealer you can get will be the car's purchase value.

From an investment view point, is this car worth it ? Heck no, not the worst investment Cuda convertible, but certainly not the best.

From a purchase view point, is this car worth it ? Sure is if you got the money to spend, you won't find a nicer looking 71 Cuda convertible in my opinion. :2cents:

Thanks ANLAUTO, I will keep on struggle with him, I should also prefer a "cleaner" car but I do have a budget.

Still find it odd they'd go through the trouble of creating a fake fender tag and window sticker w/options and color combo that didn't come w/the car.

 :clueless:

It's obviously just for show, why the tags look aged is beyond me. :screwy:

In this case I'm very happy they didn't destroy the original broadcast sheet.... :worshippy to cover up any ill intentions :nono:

It's a nice car, I hope the original poster buys it....So we can stop seeing it on EBay over and over and over again... :dogpile:

I think the same, but as Jim Morrison said "people are strange"
