Deeper steering / drag / center-link

Mayday. Mayday.

I've changed the oil pan, and now I can't get the steering rod / drag / centerlink to fit properly as it touches the oilpan underneath.

Are there deeper drag / center links around anywhere that fit a 70 Cuda with 440?

No, there is no such center link out there, but this is not an uncommon problem for mopars.

Look at this thread about the recommended solution. This is straight out of the Mopar manuals, so this is the factory recommended method of creating oil pan, center link spacing.

I think there is some variance you can play with but in the end it's picking the right oil pan...

...and motor mounts, and trans mount, and verifying mounting pad dimensions, and...

Center link interference is usually the stack up of tolerances from all of the items listed above. Add into that factory assembly tolerances, which at some points is as loose a .125", and you have a formula for interference. Hence the factory recommendations for shimming and grinding/welding.

I only needed 1,5 cm.


Since a deeper centerlink don't exist, I ended up pressing a small dent across the oil pan, as the sheet metal was so soft it didn't hurt it much.
Worked out great, looks good. Tnx for your help :)
