shift lever
« on: September 29, 2013 - 10:23:39 PM »
Ok I am about cooked. I finally got my new shift lever for my 727 and thought I would be in good shape. I still evidently have the wrong lever. It does not match up. The shifter is in park and the tranny is in park, the lower shift rod will not adjust short enough to catch the pin. Just out of curiousity I ran the shifter and tranny through the gears just to see if the difference was consistent. It is not. It appears the difference gets further and further as I run it through. I must still have the wrong shift lever. The one I purchased is straight. The one I had was one that had about 90 degree elbow in it, I think I got it with my old B&M shifter. Is there another lever out there?

I have a 73 factory slapstick with a 727 tranny. This is what I thought had to be the correct gear selector lever. As I stated in previous post, not gonna work.

Come on guys, I'm drowning here. Just fired the car for the first time today after total restore. Its been 30 years coming. The car sounds awesome and I even made it through the break-in with just one small drip at the tranny pan. I still need a picture or info on what my transmission gear selector lever should look like. Please see previous posts for info. Someone surely has a cuda with slapstick auto (727) to get a pic or at least a description of the gear selector lever that sits on the tranny shaft.

sorry never owned an auto but it is just a ratio of length so with it just a bit longer or shorter it would match the ratio needed

Don't know if it will help, but here's a snapshot out of the parts 70/71 manual.

They might be completely different for your application.

Now we're getting somewhere. I saw that lever in the photo on ebay yesterday. I ordered it, supposed to be here friday. Hope it works. After all  the hard work it's a dumb lever that causes me sleepless nights. :pullinghair:

Yea Dutch, that is the same lever I have now. It looks like you have column shift. I hope the one I just purchased is correct for a console shift. What sucks about all this is I never had the original lever so I have no idea what is correct. Thanks all for going to the trouble of posting pics, I know its a hassle but that is what makes this website so great is we are all willing to go the extra mile for each other. :'(

Yea I see the bracket for the torque shaft in your last post now. Now I am worried. Your lever looks the same as mine. I know I have the standard console shifter and after doing a ton of research I am confident I mounted it correctly but that lever will not work for me. I am at the station today, won't be home until tomorrow morning. I will take pics and post then. Only thing I can think of is if I bought the wrong linkage that runs from the torque shaft to the gear sector lever. Could you post a pic of your linkage so I can se if it is the same as what I have?

Same exact set-up I have. Including shifter and bottom linkage except I have the T-Handle.  I'll try and post pics tomorrow.  Dude I appreciate you going to this much trouble to help a brother in need.

Would it be possible you have the lever installed upside down?
