Driveshaft length
« on: September 30, 2013 - 04:35:33 PM »
73 challenger 340 727. Last year, put a B body 8-34 housing from ,I think a Belvedere, used my old 489 chunk. Could barely get the shaft in , maybe 1/2 left before trans out shaft hit slipyolk end plug. Had a vibration at 60+ mph and solved with 4* shims  under the perch, nose up.Then my clearance was all but gone, but it drove well. Just did a 4spd conversion from Brewers. Now it wont install untill I take the axle loose & take the shims out. Anyone else been this route?..What would be suspect 1st? (there will be a test on this later)

B-body housing will have nothing to do with it. Sounds like you have the wrong length driveshaft? Just measured my 727/8 3/4 driveshaft at 44-3/4" center to center of the u-joints if that helps to compare.

340 should use 45.79" long shaft (manual or auto).

:-[  I was mistaken it's 45 3/4" After I looked at the chart I went out and re-measured. Sorry about that! :banghead:

I can't see it. B-body rear housing is a width thing . I'm wondering about your spring length or spring hangers?
