Thanks, it was tuxedo black with pewter stripes, hood scoop, not your typical cobra.  I thought out of the box and purist tried to crucify me but that's OK.  I understand but it was a kit car not an original. Anyway I think you'll like the Vredesteins.  Is it the car in your avatar? That one looks really nice.

     I always like cobras.  Yours sounds like lots of fun!  If your car wasnt built for the purist, then it doesnt matter what the purist says.  My car is pictured in my avitar.  It will look similar.  New wheels, lowered, and big brakes is all anyone should notice from the outside.  Everything else is changed.  Not stock at all.  Purist will cringe.  Im sure many many guys will want to tell me that my wheels suck.  I didnt build it for them.  Its what I want and how I want to drive it.  I grew up doing my own thing to not care what people say anyway.  Alot of people cant help themselves to say things that offend others. 
     I actually find it interesting that people are still trying to put 14" rims on their cars.  I even questioned running 18" and thought about 19".  I just dont want my wheels getting too heavy.  18" is plenty big enough to get any performance out of them.  Much bigger and they get too heavy that it upsets acceleration and suspension movements.  Actually 17" is supposed to be the compromise between acceleration, traction, steering feedback, and gas milage.     
     I called Discount Tire to order different offset rims this morning.  I have them working on getting me the Vredesteins too.  Thanks for the help.

 what kind of rims do they have in 17"s that will fit your cuda? I have basically the same car. although, i have not modified the suspension at all. i'd like to get 17", but i'm not sure what tire/rim combo would look good. i could care less if it's not stock looking, i just want it to look and run great.

I thought about getting 17s" too.  The only ones I really looked at were the Year One rallye in staggered size.  These rims and a set of Vredesteins and you be in for less that $2k easy.  Your car will look sort of stock, just more modern.  They seem like the easiest way to go.  All of the fitment dimensions are taken care of.  Just bolt on and go; especially with stock suspension.  They do seem kind of heavy though. 
     Now if you want something different looking, then the options are huge.  You just need a 5 x 114.3 bolt patten and make sure the backspacing is between 4.5 and 5 inches in the front, and 5 and 5.5 inches in the back.  Check the wheel fitment thread at the top of the Suspension forum to confirm these measurements.  Tire options are still available, but with less options than larger rims. 
     I find that buying the correct wheels with correct fitment is a stressful part of any car build.  It is a major component of handling and looks.  Get it wrong in either area, and it becomes even more expensive than the first time.  I am buying through Discount Tires becasue I can set the rims on the hubs to test fitment.  If they dont fit, then I can return them with no shipping charges (so I was told by DT).  When I determine what rim size fits, I will have the tires mounted.  Dealing local should be easier than through an internet dealership if there are any problems. I guess I find out next week how true that is.

sweet, they're right up the road from me. i have a line on some 2007 and 2012 mustang bullet style 17" rims with tires super cheap. do you know if the stock rims will fit my car? it think ford and mopar share the same bolt patterns. how can i confirm B/S?

my Vredestein Sessanta tires showed up today.  My rims are on backorder until the 18th!   I placed the tires in the wheel wells around the brakes tonight to see how they fit.  The fronts look great.  The rears look a bit small in diameter.  I had my car on jackstands on the axle and control arms and tried to get it to settle, but it still sat a bit high.  I have to mess with it later.  I will run them this next year, and if I can cook off the rears, I may try a larger diameter unless I really like the way the car handles.  Handling comes before style in my garage.  Now if I only had a set of rims.........

If the steel springs are new they will take a few weeks to settle and will drop some.

BS depends on width of rims. 8" rims have 4.5" bs which is fine for you but the wider rims have bs that will not work with an unmodified ebody suspension. Hub diameter is probably too small. Measure it. You need 71.6mm or larger. Bolt centres are fine.
